Sibling for India and Rafferty

Looking for inspiration for a name which goes well with India and Rafferty? Don’t know what we are having. Quite like Bodhi for a boy but nothing really shouting out to us in the way of girls names. Georgia maybe possibly?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PearlFriday · 12/08/2021 17:15

I agree with you there. My children's names go! I think so anyway. I wanted them to go. I agree that some combinations would make me think that might be "blended family".

PearlFriday · 12/08/2021 17:11

I dont dislike the names sarah or lucy but id feel embarrassed by the lack of any tiny bit of original thought. I wouldnt feel a dick calling out sarah in a park! but it could be my mother or my sister, and lucy could be the labradoodle.

I do believe in the think about yourself calling out these names test though!

BorderlineHappy · 12/08/2021 16:51

@CelestialGalaxy you would prbably hate my kids names then.
But i do think sibling names should "go".

Like you wouldnt call one child Albert and the other one Brooklyn.

And the world would be boring if we all liked the same names.I find Matthew boring.

So teh names you picked for your kids @CelestialGalaxy did you actually like them or did you call them that because thats what was expected of you.

Cbeebiesrehab · 12/08/2021 16:50

‘Is there a role model with that name that you can point to their qualities as the reason you thought that name would be appropriate for them?’
So you’re deciding what qualities you think they should aspire to? Sounds like you also are picking names based on your own ideals.

Ultimately, as parents of course we are going to pick names ‘for us’ as newborns tend to lack the ability to shout ‘I’m a Charlotte!!’ As long as you’re not calling the baby Rasputin or something it’s hardly something to get worked up about. Not one name on this thread is even eyebrow raising.

CelestialGalaxy · 12/08/2021 16:30

@BorderlineHappy

No I dont think some people do pick names for their children when they talk about how one name sounds with another siblings name...that child is an individual.

Some of the way out names suggested on the thread, when i say i pick a name for the child, I mean what that name can or does represent.
Can the child use it in different forms to have different identitities as they change and grow ( eg Matthew, Matt, Matty, Hew).
What is the meaning of their name?
Is there a role model with that name that you can point to their qualities as the reason you thought that name would be appropriate for them?
Bit more personal and individual.to the child rather than 'it sounds good with the siblings name'

BorderlineHappy · 12/08/2021 16:05

Personally I would hate my child to be embarrassed by their name as they got older
All kids hate their name at some stage.

then i picked my childrens names for them, not me.
Doesn't everybody @celestialGalaxy

And tbf Rafferty and India are not exactly out there
They're perfectly nice names.

Notradespeopleareavailable · 12/08/2021 15:47

@CelestialGalaxy

3babessoon Not sure to whom the comment about pretentious was aimed at, but if it was me, then that isn't what I said, what I said was picking the kinds of names often thrown about on these threads can seemingly go one of two ways. Personally I would hate my child to be embarrassed by their name as they got older, but then i picked my childrens names for them, not me.
I think that's right - the names should be about the child but often it seems to be about the parents (and their wish to have a 'unique' name for their wonderful progeny).

What's wrong with having a more mainstream first name and then going all out for a middle name? That way the child gets to choose if they prefer to have a name that's more blending or a name that shouts 'look at me!'

@3babessoon

Yeah I realised that, not ideal. Literally don’t like any girls names,
Georgia is beautiful Freya also would go nicely Fraser is my fave boys name
3babessoon · 12/08/2021 14:43

What’s pretentious about them? How rude!

Zandathepanda · 12/08/2021 14:36

Loooovvvvveeee border collies but the ones I knew were Laddie, Gyp, Spark and Nip (and yes he did).

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 13:39

Tbf dog names were traditionally human if the pedigrees of my Border Collies are anything to go by & I definitely prefer a good solid human name myself 😬

Zandathepanda · 12/08/2021 12:40

The problem is dog names are increasingly human. Round here we have: Rufus, Oscar, Alfie, Barney, Skye, Maisie, Lola, Dave, Jess, Chaz and Betsey.

Germolenequeen · 12/08/2021 11:51

@CelestialGalaxy

Hahaha yes exactly 😅

SaltySheepdog · 12/08/2021 11:41

Actually Kit goes well with India and Rafferty

LittleMysSister · 12/08/2021 11:22

My ultimate test for a name is 'would I feel like a dick shouting the name across a field/park'

Loooool me too. As much as I love some names in the abstract, would I really feel OK shouting them out across a playground? Some names just don't feel right to you but are totally fine for others.

I absolutely love the name Ophelia but I know I wouldn't have the confidence to call my child it.

Good suggestion for you though OP!!! Ophelia :)

CelestialGalaxy · 12/08/2021 11:20

These threads are all the same with people picking names that suggest their kids are either going to be upper echelon or scroungers, there is nothing wrong with Sarah, Lucy etc as a previous poster implied.

My ultimate test for a name is 'would I feel like a dick shouting the name across a field/park' and would people think it was more appropriate name for a dog. If the answer is no to this then it works.

SaltySheepdog · 12/08/2021 11:12

Sydney for a girl

SaltySheepdog · 12/08/2021 11:10

Sunny

Notradespeopleareavailable · 12/08/2021 11:02

Gerry? :)

LittleMysSister · 12/08/2021 11:00

@Cbeebiesrehab

There is giving opinions and then there is going out of your way to be ‘oh so funny’ and slate existing children’s names. OP asked for suggestions based on her existing children’s names and people have decided it’s their place to slate them, don’t understand what that achieves other than potentially upsetting a pregnant woman. What’s the point? It’s just a dick move.
Yes I agree. It's awful that people are coming here and being rude about OP's existing children's names.

Everyone has different taste in names, there is no objective good and bad. So nasty to make hurtful comments about names already given. Or tbh, spiteful comments about any names at all are unnecessary as you never know who is reading.

LittleMysSister · 12/08/2021 10:56

@3babessoon

So rude! Tabitha doesn’t strike me as a very catty name.
I think lots of people associate Tabitha with cats because of Tabby? Also there is a cat called Tabitha in the Beatrix Potter books.

I don't think it's too strong an association to use though, Tabitha is a lovely name, but it is there.

DaisyWaldron · 12/08/2021 10:56

I can't think of any names which have been serious suggestions on this thread which aren't relatively well-known names. Not top ten (although some are certainly very popular) but none particularly strange and certainly not random collections of letters.

Amdone123 · 12/08/2021 10:52

@Cbeebiesrehab, well said, so true.
