Why are boys names so hard?!

There's nothing wrong with Sonny at all imo! It's a name I've heard on men of all ages. Possibly as a NN for something else, but there are plenty of nicknamey names around these days.

It's way better than Teddy imo and Joel for that matter (personal taste etc).

Isaac is still my favourite and it's less controversial.

Sonny is my favourite. It seems very marmite! I was glad I didn't call it my little boy though, he was the grumpiest screamy baby ever. Definitely not sunny 😅

@Kanaloa yes that is true, I'm just surprised so many people feel so strongly about a name that will have no impact on them. There are a lot of names I hear that I think not for me but wouldn't think things like that's not a real name etc. Now I do know the OP did come on looking for opinions so people are only answering the question asked, I'm just surprised with the level of dislike for Sonny!!!!!!

People will love and hate every name for their own reasons @Newmum110. The important thing is if you like it. A similar name to Sonny is Sully/Sullivan which I like but loads of people just say monsters inc!

I love Sonny & have it on my list, didn't realise so many people hated it. Boys names are soooooo difficult.

Re the Al Pucino chat, there was a character called Sonny in The Godfather (the first one). Michael's big brother.

Isaac is my sons middle name, I really like Joel, hate sonny.

I know a boy who's name is Issac. Definitely spelled that way, I've no idea why though.

Confused well I know an Isaac very well and trust me, it’s often misspelled like that. His school frequently use this spelling on correspondence as do friends and relatives Confused

Loads of names (and words in general) aren’t pronounced exactly how they’re spelled either - we don’t say the k in knife, or the l in shouldn’t

The misspelling ‘Issac’ is so widespread that it was given to 119 babies as their legal registered name in 2019.

Isaac definitely does get misspelled. There’s an Isaac in the family and the amount of people who write ‘Issac’, including teachers, is insane - it’s like they know there’s two of the same letter and pick the wrong one). I still think it’s a gorgeous name though
Yes, I know a Rebecca who always gets Rebbeca Confused.

It also wouldn't put me off Isaac. You'll always get Joe for Joel as well or as a pp says, Sunni or Sunny for Sonny. People being unable to spell names is unavoidable tbh.

Joel is underused but I like it. Isaac is very popular which may or may not put you off. Sonny is dreadful.

Joel. Sonny is cute for a child but on an adult, no. Isaac is ok but would expect shortening to Zac.
