Baby boy is a couple of weeks old now and needs a name! We seem to like slightly unusual but known names. What are your thoughts/associations/expectations of someone with the name:

  • Guy
  • Lionel
  • Idris
  • Rudy
  • Wilbur
  • Felix
  • August
  • Basil

Any other suggestions of names we might like?
Thank you

Congratulations on your lovely new baby too by the way Grin.

What do you call him? Is it a nickname that lends itself to one of the longer names?

I'm not a fan of any of your choices, sorry, with the exception of Guy which is fine.

I love Wilbur. Also quite like Basil. It makes me think of Fawlty Towers rather than Basil Brush or the herb.

August is nice but it sounds a very pretty to me. I think you’d have to have a connection to the month as well. However Gus would be a fab nn.

Ivor / Ivo
Frank

I really like Guy, Lionel, Rudy and Wilbur. Wilbur might become Wil later if that would bother you? I think I would pair with a classic middle name eg James/Edward.

I’m less keen on Idris and Felix. It’s the sound of them I think that puts me off.

I dislike August and Basil.

I also like or think you might like:

Edwin
Cedric
Cy
Walter
Cuthbert
Monty
Francis
Rupert
Lawrence
Leonard

Which works with your surname? Any middle names in mind?

diddlediddle · 09/08/2021 23:18

I really like Guy and August

EekGoesTheBaby · 09/08/2021 23:17

Congratulations! Here are my knee-jerk reactions, so please don't take offense.

  • Guy...will be strange until he reaches adulthood
  • Lionel...Richie
  • Idris...Elba
  • Rudy...a sensitive soul
  • Wilbur...dog's name
  • Felix..love it, cool but not trying too hard
  • August...the month
  • Basil...the herb

Others: Sasha, Zander

I'm sure whatever you choose, DS will love it and grow into it.

Wilbur - love this, but reminds me of "Babe" the pig, sorry!😂
