Myself and my husband have cut down a long list of boys names that we like, but still not 100% sure. They're a mix of Irish/Scottish
What do you think;

-Ewan
-Caolann (pronounced kay-linn)

  • Cillian
  • Connell
  • Oisin

Please be honest if you don't like the name

Thank you

Cillian and oisin are both really nice.

I work in an international central london office and am confident 90%+ of my coworkers could spell and pronounce these both no problem.

Hi OP,
I've never seen Caolann spelt with two n's like that, only as Caolán (or Caolan if you leave out the fada). This name is pronounced differently depending on where in Ireland you live.
I like Oisín, prefer it with the fada, I know it might be awkward in the UK.
Cillian is nice.
I prefer Conall (Cun-al) to the anglicised Connell, but don't know if I'd use it outside Ireland.
Not a huge fan of Ewan.

There are other Irish names that may be simpler to use in the UK if that's what you'd prefer -
Oscar, Finn, Aidan, Conor, Seán, Ronán/Ronan maybe?

All the names are fine, @coffeewithmilk. Pick the one you like best.

coffeewithmilk · 07/08/2021 09:42

Thank you everyone for your opinions.
I'm Irish, so wanted something with a bit of Irish to it, but now I think the names like caolann etc will cause hassle for the rest of his life having to correct people on spelling etc.

Thanks all for your honesty! All comments taken on board!

@coffeewithmilk I'm sorry but I don't like any of them..

Ewan reminds me of Ewan the sheep

Caolann - I have a named that does not sound the same as how it's spelt and all my life I've had to explain to every person what it should be I always get called the wrong thing and wished I had been called something else.

Cillian - as in kill - Ian ? Awful

Connell reminds me of the estate agents

Oisin is like poison

Think you need some new names

No offence intended just being honest x

WhoppingBigBackside · 07/08/2021 09:33

Not keen on Caolann and Cillian.

I'd pick Ewan

Tulips15 · 07/08/2021 09:27

Caolann and Oisin, you/Ds will always have to pronounce and spell .
Ewan is the only one I would choose

Pigeonorcoot · 07/08/2021 09:24

I like Ewan (prefer Euan spelling personally)

Lockdownbear · 07/08/2021 09:22

Ewan and Connell are both lovely.

Caolann and Cillian both look like miss spelt girls names, Caroline and Gillian, people will miss read them. He'll spend his life correcting people.

Oisin, is OK but I'm not that keen on it.

NotMeekNotObedient · 07/08/2021 09:17

I like Ewan & Connell best

DotDotDotDotDot · 07/08/2021 09:07

I really like Oisìn and Cillian and from your list. I’m not sure the Caolann spelling looks right, perhaps an Irish speaker will confirm. Ewan is nice, I also like Eoin and Evan if you want any suggestions. Good luck.

MrsGilly1 · 07/08/2021 08:41

Ewan followed by Oisin. Not keen on the others x

PurplePizzaCake · 07/08/2021 08:33

My favourite is Ewan, followed by Oisin then Connell.

Not too keen on the other two.
