I also like Clara, husband loves Eve but I'm not sure because it's quite popular at the moment!

NC as also identifying but I have a little girl Lola myself. It suits her perfectly and I wouldn’t change it for the world! Her ex-teacher was Spanish and used to call her Lolita. It is an endearing name in Spain and only means affection, nobody there has any other connections with that nickname.

I have met quite a few Lola-dogs mind .. ! Grin

@LolaThePuppy

Name changed for this because highly identifying.

I have a puppy called Lola and it is a lovely name. But it is prone to nicknames such as Lola-Lou and Lolz.

It is a lovely kids name but a "brave choice".

Lo, lols, lolly are lovely nicknames

@Rugbycomet

What about Evie? Softer than Eve.
No way, it's everywhere. And isn't it a nickname for Eve anyway?

PurBal · 06/08/2021 19:56

Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl
With yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there

I don’t mind it to be honest but I still think the Lolita references are fairly strong Sad

BungleandGeorge · 06/08/2021 19:53

I wouldn’t personally be swayed too much by popularity as it can change so quickly and being mainstream isn’t such a bad thing

Love it.

swingsandroundaboutss · 06/08/2021 19:52

I like Lola. Definitely would consider it for hypothetical further DDs! I’ve only known one - my hairdresser’s daughter is Lola, she must be about 15 now.

whistlers · 06/08/2021 19:52

Despite all the negative, that is generally agreeing with, I can't stop LOVING this name!

@TuesdayRuby

What’s wrong with being a drag Queen?! That Lola sounded fabulous. She must have been something special for the Kinks to write a great song about her.

I love the name Lola 😍

Gooooodbye Ruby Tuesday 🎶

Brassy as in a little bit flashy and in your face. Clara and Eve seem quite refined whereas Lola is all pouty and wiggledy hipped.

user1493494961 · 06/08/2021 19:50

Clara is lovely, a classic. Lola is the opposite.

DramaAlpaca · 06/08/2021 19:49

Eve and Clara are beautiful, elegant names which are both feminine and strong.

Lola isn't any of the above apart from feminine.

SionnachRua · 06/08/2021 19:48

Lovely on a small, yappy dog. Like a Pomeranian or a Jack Russell.

I really dislike it on a human, it feels very twee, frilly and insubstantial. Clara and Eve are lovely. I've only ever taught one Eve but it does blend into the hordes of Evas and Evies!

budgun · 06/08/2021 19:48

I love Lola

INeedtobealone · 06/08/2021 19:47

I like Clara and Eve.

Lola to me is a cat's name.

@BungleandGeorge

Just the normal ons stats www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/bulletins/babynamesenglandandwales/2019

There are quite a lot of Lola’s around, there really aren’t many Eves. I don’t know a single child named Eve. There are similar sounding Evie, Eva etc though

Thanks. Yeah it's more the Eva, Evie, Edies etc etc

@Cornettoninja

I know all of the negatives of Lola but I still love it. I don’t much like it’s meaning though (sorrows).

Apparently Lola is a nn for Aloisia which is is lovely.

Yes I didn't realise it comes from Dolores and means Lady of the Sorrows. It's such a happy sounding name!

Lola = Strippers or pugs.

actiongirl1978 · 06/08/2021 19:43

Love lola. My friend has a DD with that name, usually shortened to Lo.

MojoJojo71 · 06/08/2021 19:42

I’m afraid it makes me think of either a stripper or the song too.

Love Clara though
