Thoughts on Lola?

I also like Clara, husband loves Eve but I'm not sure because it's quite popular at the moment!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

You sound quite set on it.

Personally it brings up
A) the song- not going to be forgotten any time soon
B) Lolita, thoughts of an over sexualised girl
C) Loud, naughty child (personal connotation)

I don’t think would affect job prospects though, just a bit of a frilly name for a woman who wants to be taken seriously.

Clara is so nice and elegant out of the names you’ve mentioned.

Short L names seem to be trending and much prefer these even if they aren’t my taste- Lara, Lana, Lyra, Lyla, Lily, even Lorelai,

BungleandGeorge · 06/08/2021 22:23

You sound set on Lola! Honestly I don’t think any name in the top 50 is going to restrict future career choices or raise eyebrows. If you both like it that’s the main thing

whistlers · 06/08/2021 21:31

@FitToFly

It’s not true that people forget about the songs with names in them. Take it from me.
It's not a bad song though?

Love Lola, my little girl is Lola Rose

I quite like Eve, Evie is incredibly popular but I haven't heard of many girls just called Eve.

whistlers · 06/08/2021 21:25

@swingsandroundaboutss

Do you like Lara? That’s nice too
Not as much for some reason. Pretty though

It's a great name, I guess that's why it was chosen for the song!

Weirdly, my teen dd and her friends sing Lola, she was a showgirl all the time. But then they sing John Denver and Buddy Holly songs too. Even 9yo ds knows the Barry Manilow song. I'm really not sure why it's popular with young people but it is.

flingoo · 06/08/2021 21:01

Or Cora

whistlers · 06/08/2021 21:01

@flingoo

What about Eva?
No offence intended but I find it sooo incredibly dull

That song's pretty old so I can ignore that

This.

There are Eve’s everywhere at our school along with Evie/Evelyn.

I like Lola but not with the default Rose/May/Grace that every girl is given at the minute.

Love Clara.

BungleandGeorge · 06/08/2021 20:50

Lola does come up as number 4 for dogs... having said that most dogs do have human names nowadays

ShowOfHands · 06/08/2021 20:34

I know two human Lolas (both hyphenated actually so Lola-May and Lola-Grace) and three Lola dogs. One's a chihuahua and the other two are pugs. I find it hard to like it on little girls when two friends shout it and their dogs trot over!

Eve/Evie/Evelyn/Ava is done to death.

Clara is lovely. Go with that.

tintodeverano2 · 06/08/2021 20:29

Dolores (from which Lola is a nickname) comes from dolor which is pain in Spanish.

emmathedilemma · 06/08/2021 20:15

She was a showgirl!
And because of these associations I expect anyone called Lola to be big and loud and a bit brassey. I only know one and she’s just the opposite and for me, her name just doesn’t suit her!
Clara and Eve are much classier.

Seedlipvshendricks · 06/08/2021 20:14

My friend has a Lorelei that gets shortened to lolly or Lola, that would give her options when she is older.

Augustbaby21 · 06/08/2021 20:11

I love the name Lola - I think it’s really pretty and does not make me think of a stripper!
I also really like Clara but not a fan of Eve

whistlers · 06/08/2021 20:10

@TheFormidableMrsC

Lola is a gorgeous name!
I have to convince my husband.

He loves the name but worried about 'career prospects in the future' wtf?!

I'm clearly a massive nerd, because my first thought was the red Corvette that Phil Coulson has (from Marvel's Agents of Shield, for the not quite so nerdy).

My second was Charlie and Lola.

It's a nice name though.
