Is it just too much? We love it but I’m a bit concerned it’ll raise too many eyebrows!

I know two teenage Orlandos - both lovely.

SmallElephant · 22/12/2021 12:16

I know one - he's 15. I like it if you want something a bit unusual.

SummerLew · 22/12/2021 12:12

I know one with siblings Harry and Ella, so that has normalised it for me! I quite like it.

WhoppingBigBackside · 22/12/2021 11:23

Happily even.

I think you'll find that the names in Windsor a lot more ordinary and will be the usual top names like Oliver, Jack etc

Windsor isn't particularly posh.

Ceramide · 22/12/2021 10:45

Too much for me

WhoppingBigBackside · 22/12/2021 09:41

@TrampolineForMrKite

Perfectly lovely name for a son, as long as you live in Happily-on-the-Wold, near Royal Windsor.
Happy-in-the-Wold is nowhere near Royal Windsor
StColumbofNavron · 22/12/2021 09:02

I know a few, two are 13 and one younger.

For me, it reminds of a massive crush I had once. That said, I think it’s a fab name and not really out of the ordinary anymore.

user1471604848 · 22/12/2021 09:00

Great name.
I think if Tilda Swindon (plays Orlando in the film of the book).

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/12/2021 09:00

@WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor

It’s a bit American sounding to me.
🤣

I don’t think a person called Orlando would even get that reference darling…

It’s nice OP. Agree with PP that Orlando B has made it more accessible, and flowery boy names (eg Raphael)) are now pretty mainstream. He can always call himself Ollie if he likes.

HuntingoftheSnark · 22/12/2021 06:54

I love it for the Woolf reference; Lando would remind me of Calrissian in Star Wars ...

As this is an August thread, what did you decide upon, @Deeno123 ?

HeronLanyon · 22/12/2021 06:50

My refs are
Gibbons - composer
V Woolf
A childhood pet named after P G Wodehouse character.
Wonder if op did use the name ?

Bubblty · 22/12/2021 06:36

Nice

StucklnAChimneyCantGetOutOflt · 22/12/2021 02:31

Orlando....and Bloom

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 22/12/2021 02:17

@Schoolfinder - it could be considered brave as it's pretty uncommon (only about 20 named it each year in E and W until Orlando Bloom became famous and even now it still rarely rises above 60 or so a year) - which your DS may or may not appreciate, especially if he's a shy child and doesn't want to stand out from his peers.

I personally love Orlando since it has great nn's (Orry, Orly, Lando, Rollo...) and it makes me think of the literary characters before the actor or even the popular holiday destination - but that won't apply to a lot of people. If where you live Orlando wouldn't raise so many eyebrows then that's brilliant, please use it for me! Smile

Schoolfinder · 22/12/2021 01:32

I love the name, we have it on our list as boys names. I’m also trying to understand why the name is brave or would raise eyebrows?

WhatWouldKalindaDo · 18/08/2021 19:57

TinaYouFatLard

Yes to 'Ghost'! I thought of that scene too Grin

"Damn, baby, what'd you do to your hair?"
"Orlando, you like it? It's Autumn Sunrise."

RobynNora · 12/08/2021 19:44

Only guy I know who has it is soooo impossibly posh. He says he gets Bloom more than Virginia Wolf. Gorgeous name.

beans1992 · 12/08/2021 19:28

I absolutely love it.

YorkshireSunshine · 10/08/2021 14:09

I like Orlando - Virginia Wolf fan here. But think Lando is more wearable - my OH is a big F1 fan though so thinks people would think we’d named him after the driver Grin

TatianaBis · 07/08/2021 08:45

Puzzled by the idea of it being brave. I know 3.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/08/2021 18:04

It is quite brave - but awesome imo. Great literary namesakes (Shakespeare and Woolf characters) but I think a lot of people will think of actor Bloom or the Florida city too instead unfortunately. I like the nn Orry with it myself.

margarita100 · 05/08/2021 16:54

@OrlandointheWilderness great username! ☺️

OrlandointheWilderness · 05/08/2021 16:01

@margarita100

I love it! The book by Virginia Woolf springs to mind for me, I don't think of Florida at all. I think a lot of people will think of Bloom though but he won't be around forever. Go for it if you like it
Yes that's where my username came from. It's what I always associate the name with.
Iamacatslave · 05/08/2021 15:49

I know an Orlando. We call him Lando.

TinaYouFatLard · 05/08/2021 15:46

I do like it but there’s a scene in the movie Ghost where a woman is trying to contact her dead husband and it always makes me think of that!
