Boy’s name help

Me and DP have struggled a bit for a boy’s name as we seem to have quite different tastes. We have a shortlist and plan to see what he looks like when he’s here but I’m concerned that none is ‘the one’ and I have reservations about them all.

Nathaniel (Nate) - DP’s least favourite, he associates it with a child from a different background to us.
Reuben - I would hate Ruby as a NN and not sure if people would assume we’re Jewish
Isaac (Zac) - I don’t like how popular it is and worry it will constantly be misspelt
Gabriel (Gabe) - potential for playground bullying?
Jonah - Unlucky or a jinx

Middle name will be Jasper (no chance of this as a first name), surname short and ends in an X 🦊, so some names don’t sound right with it.

I know all of the names above are biblical but we’re not religious and that’s not a consideration, we’re not a fan of ‘old man’ names, anything too that could be seen as pretentious or chavvy 🤦‍♀️.

We would prefer something not overly common, but I suppose anything below top 50 is ok.

Also I’ve been banned from having anything with a ‘th’ sound as I’m from South London and everyone in my family will pronounce it as an ‘f’ and we live in Liverpool where pretty much every name gets shortened so I have to like the nn 😫.

Please tell me if I’m being hormonal and overthinking the names on our list or please give lots of suggestions; I’m really hoping we’ve just skated over the perfect name somehow!

Gabriel 🦊 is lovely.
I wouldn’t have Isaac 🦊 personally. Feel like they run into each other.
I also like Jonah (know of two born recently) and Reuben (although very popular) like Nathaniel but not Nate.

My fave is Nathaniel - classic with nice literary links but underused in the UK. Gabriel is lovely too though and popular enough now for kids that I really doubt there would be any teasing. Isaac is nice enough (but I admit I do the Issac thing when in in rush). Not keen on the sound of Jonah or Reuben personally.

Owen, Evan, Michael (outside top 50 now), Ezra, Caleb?

Gabriel goes best with your surname, beautiful name. I have an Isaac and can confirm he gets Issac on everything.

@BadlydoneHelen

If you like Zac as a nickname for Isaac why not go for Zachery?
I do like that but we have a Zachery in the family. He’s not close but I’m close to his grandparents and so is DM so it could get a bit complicated.

Thanks all, some lovely suggestions 😃

Interesting that in the first two posts one says Ruby might be a problem and one says it won’t 😂

@Awwlookatmybabyspider it’s not the pronunciation of Isaac but that I see a lot of people misspell it as Issac. Plus all of the potential different spellings of Zac. I have a name that I constantly have to spell or don’t have emails come through as people take it down wrong and it drives me mad!

Rowan
Sebastian
Elias
Jacob

I’d say scratch Nathaniel if your DH isn’t fully on board with it.

I’ve never heard of Ruby as a nn for Reuben. It’s more likely to be Roo.

Isaac. I can’t see any pronunciation confusion there.

Gabriel is the name I’ve got chosen for my little boy. If I’m lucky enough to have one don’t think it’s tease worthy at all. Incidentally I'm also from Liverpool and I’m hearing lots of little Gabriel’s while out and about. Gabriel Jasper F🦊x is gorgeous.

I don’t like the Jonah at all and I’m not feeling Jonah Jasper f🦊x. That’s just my opinion though.

Kieran Jasper F🦊x
Henry Jasper f🦊x
Leo Jasper F🦊x
Coleby Jasper F🦊x
Elliot Jasper F🦊x
Teddy Jasper F🦊x
Benjamin Jasper F🦊x
Bobby Jasper F🦊x
William Jasper F🦊x
Anthony Jasper F🦊x

I like all those names, particularly Reuben and Jonah. I think I would go Reuben, although agree about Ruby nickname. Have you considered Elias/ Elijah nickname Eli?
