i’m unable to decide between valentina and roseanne, i had my heart set on roseanne as i like the fact it can be shortened to rose but valentina has thrown a curveball! which do you think would be a better name? Blush

I know a Valentina, she goes by Lina.

Although I would try not to shorten it. My name is four syllables and is never shortened.

Roseanne Barr.

SunSeaSurfGin · 03/08/2021 12:33

Like both names but Valentina pips it to the post

ReggaetonLente · 03/08/2021 12:30

Oh and Valentina isn't just used in Italy, it's used in Spain, most of central Europe and South America. DH is from central Europe 😊 the root name is Valentine, the Saint, so it's pretty international.

ReggaetonLente · 03/08/2021 12:28

How funny, one of these is my name and one is DD1's!

I obviously like them both 😜

TanyaLoves · 03/08/2021 12:08

Valentina is a beautiful name! It means strong and healthy

RickOShay · 03/08/2021 11:47

Rose is so so beautiful. I prefer it to any other Rose names.
I also love Valentina. You can’t go wrong @indecisivemama93 Smile

PattyPan · 03/08/2021 10:16

I love Roseanne! It’s unusual but not too out there. Valentina is ok as a full name but I don’t like Val/Tina which are the obvious nicknames and I do think it would get shortened as it is quite long.

Lcachu · 03/08/2021 10:13

@Crabsy

Sorry but I only think Valentina works if you have Italian in your family. It sounds particularly bad with very English surnames eg Valentina Smith, Valentina Coats. Makes it sound very chavvy IMO (sorry I know that term is disliked on MN but I’m being honest). Only sounds right to me if followed by an Italian surname eg Valentina Romano.

I like Roseanne but think Rosanna or Rosalie would be better.

Completely agree. Dani Dyer is a great example of this!
CarriMarie · 03/08/2021 10:12

I know a teenage Rosanna who used to be Rose/Rosie but now goes by Sanna which really suits her.

ChampagneWorries · 03/08/2021 09:39

I love Rosanna but I don’t like it pronounced Roseanna. I prefer it pronounced Ro sanna

Cbeebiesrehab · 03/08/2021 09:34

100% Rose. It is so pretty and elegant and isn’t that commonly used as a first name.

Valentina, as many PP have said, is lovely as a whole name but the whole ‘Val’ and ‘Tina’ bit would be putting me off.

Elspethelf · 03/08/2021 01:54

I prefer Rose names. Rose, Rosanna, Rosalind, Rosaline, Rosamund, and Rosalie all sound a touch more feminine and romantic to me than Roseanne though.

DreamAboutSleep · 02/08/2021 21:26

Rosalind is nicer than Rosanne etc.

Violetlavenders · 01/08/2021 10:12

I know a Valentina who goes by her full name. It's beautiful

Bluntness100 · 01/08/2021 07:32

Valentina is lovely but let’s face it she’s going to be called val or Tina, neither of which are great in my opinion

Rose is a lovely name though.

Nandocushion · 01/08/2021 07:24

V interesting OP. Please don't use Roseanne if you may ever move to USA. Any diminutive of it is fine but not that full name, at least for another 5+ years.

Rosa and Rosemary too

SaltySheepdog · 01/08/2021 05:27

I’m with you. Rose and Roseanne are beautiful. Valentina is ok I guess but Val and Tina are awful.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 01/08/2021 04:40

Rose is a classic and both romantic and elegant - if it works with your surname it's pretty much a "can't go wrong name" imo, well used but not top 50 yet.

indecisivemama93 · 01/08/2021 00:37

Thank you! I’m not so sure about Roseanne anymore.. maybe just Rose?

PolkadotSkies · 31/07/2021 23:23

Valentina

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 31/07/2021 22:58

Much prefer Rosanna to Rosanne - that extra "a" gives it a much more romantic and classical sound imo ala Julie vs Juila, Diane vs Diana etc.

Valentina is pretty in a sightly frilly way, but I'm less keen on Val/Tina than I am Rose/Rosa/Annie.

GaiaGirll · 31/07/2021 21:56

Love Valentina and would also go Valle for the nickname or even V for short

sarah13xx · 31/07/2021 21:48

I really like that Rochelle Humes’ little girl is Valentina, nickname Valle (Valley). It’s really unusual
