Would you raise an eyebrow at Lennox?

pretty much what it says in the title really.

for a boy, nickname as Lenny!

we have a daughter called Ada

I like names that are a bit different but not so weird you would be like what.....

I like it. First heard it on Only Fools and Horses, with Lennox Gilbey, as others have said. I think it sounds really nice though.

Hmm, makes me think of Annie Lennox.

I would assume Lenny was short for Leonard, and also be reminded of "Of Mice and Men"

I kind of like it. I've never met one but I wouldn't instinctively say it would automatically be shortened to Lenny - I knew a boy called Lennon who was never Lenny.

I love Lennox but as previous poster said it’s not uncommon here in Scotland so I’m used to hearing it .

I definitely would. I agree Lennox sounds rough and Lenny makes me think of the character from Of Mice and Men, pretty awful.

hahah she may well have a soft spot for him!

yeah, I know a lot of children who have first names that I also know of people with that surname, such as Harrison, Gray, Archer, Carter etc..

It is a surname that has been used for many years in Scotland as a first name - as has Brodie, Cameron, Stuart and many others.

Lennox is way way better than Alvie! (And Gareth Grin which just screams 1970s to me, does your Mum have a crush on Mr Southgate by any chance??)

I'm Scottish so to me it's a dignified and ancient surname, but see absolutely no reason it can't be used like many other surnames as a first name now. It certainly wouldn't raise eyebrows round here, I've met kids with first names Cameron, MacKenzie, lots of various clan names all used as first names.

Yes please don’t name him the same name as dad. It’s very confusing and you’ll have a Big John and Little John set up, post, doctors appointments. All a bit of a nightmare.
yeah I'm really not into the whole xyz senior, xyz junior thing!

I knew we would find it hard with boys names, I knew my husband would be quite picky. which is good of course as the child has to live with their name but it's been hard too. he has rejected every name I've offered and the only one he has put forward I thought was made up - Alvie.

I have met a Lennox. Would be 6 now.

Its out there and did raise eyebrows. But not in a 'omg thats awful' way. Just in a oh that's interesting.

Lenny for me would just be a nickname I think would probably get used!

DH is still not sold unfortunately...I feel like there is a possibility he is trying to hold out to name him after himself but I don't really like that! I want our son to have his own name

I quite like Lennox. I really dislike Lenny though. I feel like Lennox could be quite a quirky and earthy name, especially paired with Ada, but Lenny is a bit Ronnie and Reggie for me. That being said, ie names are very popular for boys at the moment so I may be in the minority.

My grandad’s first name, he died a few years ago but would have been in his 90s now. I wish that I had used it at least as a middle name for my DS. Before he retired he was general manager of a UK household name company, so not a name that I view as out there.

Lennox is a Shakespearean character in Macbeth

You'll be claiming MacDuff is a good first name next. The Lennox family were senior nobility in Scotland for centuries.

Lennox is a brand of heating/air conditioning units in Canada and I think the US.

It would immediately conjure up this image for me.
