Hello! I’m expecting a baby girl at the end of summer and my husband and I have got down to two final names… which one would you go for?
Marnie or Margot?
The middle name will probably be Joy! Thanks!

Much prefer Marnie but depends on surname..?

Only because I had Marnie on our list but our surname ends 'ee' sound and it was a bit much together :)

enoughforme · 27/07/2021 22:53

Marnie I love that name

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 27/07/2021 22:06

She was Margo Leadbetter not Margot. The Margo spelling is not so maggotty

Sounds exactly the same and is a very 70s name to my ear.

So, it's a no from me.

NotMeekNotObedient · 27/07/2021 12:48

I like Margot best.

Both lovely but Margot is my favourite of the two.

DinosaurDiana · 26/07/2021 20:27

Margot. Love it ! I worked with a really lovely and pretty Margot.

KimmyAndMe · 26/07/2021 20:25

Out of your two favourites it has to be Marnie. Margot is horrid!

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 26/07/2021 20:22

I remember the TV character from the 70s, Margot Leadbetter. It's a connection that would preclude me from naming a baby Margot.

Marnie is nice, but there are nicer M names. Mirren, Meredith, Mia, Miley for example.

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/07/2021 20:18

Margot. As a PP said Marnie is a bit Geordie Shore. Margot Joy is lovely.

Aozora13 · 26/07/2021 15:01

They’re both hipster faves round my way. I like them both but think I prefer Margot.

I’d put Audrey and Norah in same category too.

proopher · 26/07/2021 14:57

Margot, Marnie sounds make up to me, like it should be short for something.

LittleGwyneth · 26/07/2021 12:42

Absolutely love Margot. If you're going to play with the spelling I would go Margo without the T. Margaux is like calling your child Chardonnay or Pinot.

championofdance · 26/07/2021 12:35

Marnie

Sapnupuas · 26/07/2021 12:26

I love Margot!

Noshowwithoutpunch · 26/07/2021 11:55

Love Marnie.
Marnie Joy is lovely.

Margot is awful. As is the other spelling of it. Very 1970's hostess trolley esque imo.

Aquamarine1029 · 26/07/2021 11:53

I really dislike both, sorry. I would go back to the drawing board.

Maggiemay92 · 26/07/2021 11:51

I love the Margaux spelling too!

Both names are lovely.

AnnaSW1 · 25/07/2021 22:20

Margot. I think Marnie will age badly

17caterpillars1mouse · 25/07/2021 22:17

I prefer Marnie and I've only ever met one who would be around 14 now.

Margot seems to be very popular atm, I keep hearing baby Margot's (or Nancy's) everywhere atm but I'm not a fan

Wow real split opinion… helpful comments. thanks all!

@Benvolio

Wouldn't Margeaux be the plural of Margot? Grin
Margaux
toolazytothinkofausername · 25/07/2021 21:54

Margaux Joy :)

I do not like the name Marnie.

MaMelon · 25/07/2021 21:52

Margot - much classier and goes better with Joy. I wouldn’t go with the Margaux spelling, it’s a wine.
