Unsure about the Baby Name

35 replies

Lena264 · 24/07/2021 16:26

We are expecting our second baby in September. Unfortunately naming a baby this time is a lot more difficult
No combination is something we like. We would like to stick to family names

Silas Hugo Christian *2018; Silas is a name we liked. Hugo is from my family and Christian is from both of our families.

Names from his family: Harmon/Hermann, Ernest, Augusta, Edward

Names from my family: Irmgard, Hermann, Helena

Names which we like as first name:
Ida, Evelyn, Chloe
Oscar, Jasper

Any outside view would be appreciated

@Wonderbox

The only Irmgard I know is well over 80 and foul-tempered. Is it a name much used for babies these days?
Maybe not as a first name. But as a middle name.

@Kite22

Sorry, I found your OP very confusing, so, to be clear, is this right?

Your ds is already called Silas Hugo Christian
Then you are due another baby and you want to choose a first name from the shortlist of :
Ida, Evelyn, Chloe - if it is a girl, and
Oscar, Jasper - if it is a boy.

Then, you want the child to have 2 middle names, one of which comes from this list
Harmon/Hermann, Ernest, Augusta, Edward

and one of which must come from this list
Irmgard, Hermann, Helena

Is that right ?

Yep.

What is hard to understand?

@ladycarlotta

Harmon is a version of Hermann. So that would be double using a name

yes, I get it's a version, but it sounds like you want two middle names - you used a name that featured on both sides with your older son AND an extra MN which is why I was asking.

Silas Hugo Christian is our son.

Hugo is from my family
Christian is from both of our families.

It is not an extra name. The middle names are from both of our families.

Yes we want to middle names. One from each family. Or in case it is a boy. Hermann and a second male name from my husband´s family.

@EishetChayil

They're all lovely except Silas, which sounds like silage.
Silas is our son born in 2018. But thank you

Oscar Harmon is lovely. Do you have any other boys' middle names from your family you'd consider using, for the other one? You probably couldn't go with Oscar Harmon Hermann, although it would be bold...

My girls' vote would totally be with Ida, it's fab. Probably Ida Helena Augusta.

Silas and Ida sound brilliant together.

Jasper Edward is A bit Twilight. Not that it should worry you, as no one uses 2nd names.

Lena264 · 25/07/2021 15:09

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Yeah, I realised after I'd posted that Irmgard was probably related to the name Irma Blush. I do still prefer the look of Helena and Augusta for a DD's middle names though. I guess it make sense to use Hermann as a second middle name for a DS then, even though it's not a fave of mine personally.
Irma is the short version of Irmgard

@Chilldonaldchill

Silas is a lovely name. I would use Jasper as it has a similar feel for me, Oscar also being great but much more popular. Your girls' names have a very different feel for me in that two of them are amongst the most popular names in the last few years. So I would have to go for Ida for the first name, though I think Augusta would be the perfect first name. So: Jasper Herman Edward Or Ida Helena Augusta but I would personally love Augusta Ida Helena
Jupp. The girl names are pretty popular. I am happy we could at least agree on those three.

Edward Christian
Or
Edward Hugo Christian

MrsBertBibby · 25/07/2021 09:41

Although I think you should use Irmgard or Harmon as first names. They are wonderful!

MrsBertBibby · 25/07/2021 09:39

Augusta and Helena are very clunky together.

I like Ida best of your first names, but not with any of your vowel-sound first middles.

I'd go Evelyn Augusta Irmgard.

And Jasper Ernest Hermann.
