I have a friend Karelia. Hardly anyone can pronounce it though sadly, so she just goes by Kaye.

HPLikecraft · 29/07/2021 00:15

Ripley
Bramble
Trilby

DD has a friend called Fern which I like. I also know a Raynbow (yes, that is the spelling!).

MaidEdithofAragon · 28/07/2021 21:54

Zipporah known as Zip.

I went to school with a girl called Na'amah (NAY-a-mah). It's a fairly obscure Biblical name, I always liked it.

Blackberrybunnet · 28/07/2021 19:25

I met a Coppelia once.

Maggiesfarm · 28/07/2021 18:30

@YellowBellyCat

A colleague called her kid Kt.
Obviously a Country & Western fan.

I met an Antimony once. Goodness only knows how her parents found that one, it means poison. Dreadful name.

KaptainKaveman · 28/07/2021 12:51

There used to be an Antigone at dd's primary school. Tiggy for short.

sorryiasked · 28/07/2021 07:30

@whatthejiggeries probably the same person. Her brother had an unusual name too.

Thedogscollar · 28/07/2021 06:08

Bacardi and Tia Maria. Genuine names but not related.

CloudsandTeacups · 26/07/2021 16:38

The most unique I have come across are Yashka and Thomasin. Only met one of each in many years as a teacher.

RandomCatGenerator · 26/07/2021 16:04

That’s fascinating there were so many, @FeedMeSantiago. Is it maybe less of a thing for young people or for people living far away from the north west? I grew up near Manchester and the names are still very well known.

I rather like Hepzibah, I’ve met one. Also a Kerenhappuch. And a Zerrubible (sp?).

Pantheon · 26/07/2021 12:38

Hepzibah
Juniper
Ottilie (getting more popular)

FeedMeSantiago · 26/07/2021 12:14

I have to confess I quite like the name Myra (the Myra I know was born in the 50s so pre dating knowledge of Hindley's crimes).

I wouldn't use it though. Her peers and younger adults probably wouldn't know who Hindley was, but people my age and older would and it still feels a bit too soon.

Myra is currently ranked 545 in the latest available stats for England and Wales with 74 births in 2019.

RandomCatGenerator · 26/07/2021 10:04

Also Aristy is very unfortunate 😬

RandomCatGenerator · 26/07/2021 10:03

@FeedMeSantiago

Names I've only met one of: Jezebel Myra Aristy Valentina Anastasia Jessamine Dominique Sunshine Shenadore Margarita Delyth
Is Myra now acceptable, do we think…?

I know a Zahara and a Tuesday (and a Friday). Very different ages, so they are unlikely to be the same ones.

Musication · 26/07/2021 06:46

Years ago I taught a Europa. Other more unusual names I've taught are Zahara, Princess, Tuesday and Tudor.

christmascrazylady · 26/07/2021 06:04

Years ago in nursery beautiful little girl called Cobra.
