Shania-Twain as a first name.

My DSis knows a Shania. Her DM always blames it on her PG hormones.

I had a Lauralie (lorra-lye) in class which I thought was very pretty name.

Also Summer and Wynter in same class.

Most unusual name ever was a boy called Matrix whose name I tried to avoid saying. Confused

@Bas27

Currently 28 weeks pregnant. Will be calling DC#2 Aurora
Lovely name but not unusual, I know 3 personally and several more in the area.

Barrie is probably the most unusual name I've heard of - her dad was desperate for boy and wanted to call him Barry, out came a girl but the name stuck. I wouldn't recommend it though.

I think most of the very unusual ones are awful and often made up.

I think if you want uncommon in a child at the moment you need to go with Pamela, Linda, Patricia etc but obviously very common in women of a certain age!

I’ve got a soft spot for the names Demelza and Esmerelda.

Laureatus · 08/08/2021 20:52

@girlmama32 @JaninaDuszejko Yes I'm from Scotland and Elspeth is pretty common. It's just the Gaelic form of Elizabeth (my name) so I always think it's a bit like someone trying to find something cool and quirky because they thought Elizabeth was too common (and it actually isn't any more!) or boring 🤣 I adore my name and would highly recommend it! When did anyone last meet a little Elizabeth?

JaninaDuszejko · 07/08/2021 07:25

@girlmama32

I've only ever met one little girl called Greer, one Brighde (bree - j ) and one Elspeth
I know an adult Greer, it's a great name (most people's reference will be th actress Greer Garson). Elspeth is probably a lot more popular in Scotland than England, I wouldn't consider it an unusual name and know several. Still a good strong girl's name. Wish people who want to avoid all the cutsy girls names would go for good women's names like Elspeth not boys names for their daughters.
