Hi everyone,

So I'm due our little boy this week (prob be overdue but hey ho!) Has anyone any suggestions for a little brother for Esther?

We had Esthers name long before she was born and we love that it's traditional but still don't hear of many others......

So far we only have :

Henry (after FIL which I'm not fussed about but OH loves)

Crawford (Again a family name which i like but worried its too "out there")

Archie (I love but worried its too common now)

Any suggestions are welcome Smile

Ah ok well there we go then! No idea why I've got such a strong sense they're a couple I definitely don't know and Esther and Saul irl!

KirstenBlest · 21/07/2021 16:44

For some reason I'm thinking Saul but I don't know if maybe they're paired up in the Bible and that's why I'm getting the association? Might be worth double checking if you like that one
They're not

Otherwise
Seth
Jacob
Isaac
Montague (Monty)
Max/Maximilian
Amos (is a fab name and on my 'if I ever have another one' list)
Arlo
Hamish
Theodore
Edward
Grayson

I’d go Archie, I actually do not know any other than my own who is now in his 20’s
Lovely name and would not even associate with the royals although I do not follow them!
If I was having a boy again tomorrow I would still use that name.

KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 22:19

Same is true of Esther.

KirstenBlest · 20/07/2021 22:18

Mark was very popular in my age group, but it's a lot better than the currently popular biblical names. It's a classic so doesn't date badly.

RAOK · 20/07/2021 22:17

Another biblical name

CrouchEndTiger12 · 20/07/2021 22:03

Mark is due a comeback.

Esther & Mark

Both biblical, different testaments but no matter Wink

H328 · 20/07/2021 22:00

I absolutely love Crawford, it's on my list for this baby. I know an amazing one in his 90s and he is so dapper and gentlemanly it's impossible not to feel good about it. I don't see it as particularly different from a lot of names that are used here in Scotland (ie Campbell)

Archie I like but it's popular. Henry is not to my taste at all.

I like the suggestion of Laurence, that's nice.

FeedMeSantiago · 19/07/2021 21:57

Henry of your three. Henry is very popular atm - I know a lot of babies called Henry or Harry, or Henry with Harry as a nickname. So bear that in mind in popularity is putting you off Archie.

Other suggestions:
Peter
Paul
Michael
Adam
Reuben
Samuel
Ezra
Levi
Joel
Asa
Asher
Jonah
Amos
Matthew
Mark
Luke
John
James
Thomas
Isaac
Jacob
Benjamin

Edward, Edmund, Nicholas, Dominic, Benedict, Charles, William, Patrick and Alistair have a similar feel to Henry or are, like Esther, well known names which aren't overused.

cauliflowerkorma · 19/07/2021 07:49

Im going to be heathen and say wait and see what he looks like and then give yourself a few days with this list for inspo.

SpongeBarb · 19/07/2021 07:47

I like European sounding names like Yves and Clement, Luc, Jean

With the exception of Luc, these (lovely) names don't really have the same ring in English...

Anyway, I like Henry and it goes well with Esther. I dislike Archie and Crawford.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 19/07/2021 07:41

@thisisnotwhatisignedupfor

Agree that depending on where you live Henry might be more popular than Archie. I also don't like Crawford. Laurence would be my suggestion, classic but not common and I think it goes well with Esther.
Oh yes, but I think I'd go for the Lawrence spelling to go with Esther. Not sure why though! A very good match in my opinion.
Theoldwoman · 19/07/2021 07:38

Not fussed on any on your list , sorry.

Love Esther.

I would pair it up with:

Esther and Reuben
Esther and Jeremy
Esther and William
Esther and Caleb
Esther and Leo
Esther and Thomas

SmallPrawnEnergy · 19/07/2021 07:36

I would avoid Archie due to the royal link.
I'd do Henry
Hmm nee royal links at all with Henry is there? Grin

PurpleFlower1983 · 19/07/2021 07:03

Henry is lovely but it’s really popular at the moment if that’s an issue. I wouldn’t worry about that if you love it though!

RoseMartha · 18/07/2021 22:12

Can you use Crawford as a middle name?

Joseph
Jacob

Cloverleaf20 · 18/07/2021 21:47

George Crawford , have a good friend whose nickname has been George and it’s still seems cool as an adult !

greatestdancer · 18/07/2021 21:44

Henry goes really well with Esther

bloominglovelyorange · 18/07/2021 21:42

Archie's numbers have been falling past couple of years or so if you look at the official figures. I don't know any

thisisnotwhatisignedupfor · 18/07/2021 17:32

TatianaBis · 18/07/2021 17:30

Altho do bear in mind that Henry Crawford is the charming cad in Mansfield Park.

MissMissTorrance · 18/07/2021 17:29

First thought was Thomas.
Thomas Crawford

TatianaBis · 18/07/2021 17:25

I'd do Henry Crawford.

DinosaurDiana · 18/07/2021 17:15

I like Archie.
