Boys Name Help Please? (List)

32 weeks pregnant and really struggling with boys names!

Generally I like not made up, recognisable but uncommon names... though in pregnancy it seems my head is all over the place, and I'm not sure my list really reflects the names I liked pre-hormones!!

We are in Scotland and both Scottish heritage, though seem to be drawn to different heritage names 🤷🏻‍♀️ Surname is McNeil.

Any votes / opinions / other suggestions welcome! So far our shortlist (if you could call it that, it's basically names we both haven't veto'd!!) are:

Macsen (It's not made up honestly, it's Welsh apparently, though neither of us are. I like that it's got cute nickname options too - 'Mac' or 'Macs')

Kaspar (Not sure if friendly ghost bothers me)

Louis (A bit royal?)

Murray (Mint?)

Harvey (too Katie Price?)

Are any of these winners, or any other suggestions we might like?!

@Lotsachocolateplease I honestly feel like I don't really love any boys names? 😂😂🙈🙈 Think I've been through every list!! The problem I think is we know so many folk with young kids, it kind of restricts us... I love Oscar and Rory, but have friends with one of each so feel we couldn't use.

Also have friends / friends kids who are Cameron, Callum, Nicholas, Hugo, Zachary... we should have tried to have a baby first I think 😂🙈 Your list is a good one though!

@sarah13xx It's McNeil... I actually don't mind the M alliteration for Murray to be honest, (and in Scotland my surname is typically pronounced Mick-Neil, so I don't even mind Macsen McNeil as some do here, because I feel like the sound is different?) I'd probably avoid Mick and other names beginning Mick for that reason though!

Louis is lovely.

HoldingTheDoor · 18/07/2021 08:37

Kaspar is a great name.

I'm not a fan of Louis. Or Murray.

Harvey is ok.

Lotsachocolateplease · 18/07/2021 08:10

To be honest you don’t seem to really like any of your chosen possibilities- just that they are names you snd your dh haven’t said a definite no to.

Go back to the drawing board!!

Depending on the second name I think I’d go Murray first as my first choice and Louis second. Love both but Murray didn’t go with our second name (M) so we couldn’t use it

Theoldwoman · 18/07/2021 04:26

I know a Mascen (here in Australia, he's 15) He gets Max mostly.

I like Louis from your list.

What about Jeremy? Reuben? Jonah?

boynamestruggle · 18/07/2021 04:22

DH has veto'd Fergus as it's his boss's name 😂

And I do like Magnus but (at risk of outing myself further!) there's an outdoor clothing and equipment shop in the village my mum lives in called Team Magnus 🙈

Both good suggestions though.

Kasper McNeil sounds awesome.

Fergus?

boynamestruggle · 18/07/2021 01:39

I should say that in Scotland Mc is commonly pronounced 'Mick' rather than 'Mac'...

So 'Macsen McNeil' would be pronounced

MACsen MICKneil / MAC MICKneil,

not MACsen MACneil / MAC MACneil,

...If that makes a difference! (It does to me as I think it's more useable!)

Mac McNeil - sorry, but that sounds awful.
like you're stuttering

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 18/07/2021 01:23

Macsen - no

Kaspar, yes but I'd go with Caspar (the ghost is Casper so totally different)

Louis - French kings in tights so no

Murray - no. old man name (Scrubs joke)

Harvey - me likey! and it goes the best with your surname

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/07/2021 01:17

Adore Macsen but not sure it works with your surname. How about Magnus? It's feels more Scottish too imo.

Louis isn't a particular fave of mine, but it's okay (and no more Royal than Henry, Edward, William etc). Have you considered Lewis instead, if you are worried about the royal links of Louis?

Kaspar is lovely as long as you don't mind it being regularly misspelt (Casper/Caspar/Kasper).

Not keen on Murray or Harvey, sorry (too surname for me).

CrouchEndTiger12 · 18/07/2021 00:59

Louis is the only one I like. Goes well with surname.

You can't have a Mac first name and Mc surname.

boynamestruggle · 18/07/2021 00:55

@chorizoTapas Oh that's good to know!! I think Kaspar is my favourite but DH was a bit concerned about the ghost lol. I actually like the ghost so not sure I'm bothered about the references, if there were any!

chorizoTapas · 18/07/2021 00:31

My ds is a Kasper. We don't regret it at all and have had no ghostly references. We get a lot of compliments on his name and haven't met any other Caspers around either which is a nice plus

alexdgr8 · 18/07/2021 00:30

Louis is the only name i like.
Harvey at a stretch.
the others sound horrid to me.

BrownEyedSquirrel · 18/07/2021 00:28

Harvey and Louis for me.

I personally wouldn't have the 'Mac' sound in the first name if you also have it in the surname.
