Induction tmrw and we have gone off our main girls name. I've always liked Emma, mainly bc dearest oldest friend is an Emma and she's lovely.

Immediate thoughts? Done or due a revival?

We have a Thomas and Tessa, both known by their short versions.

AnnaSW1 *It was horrid at the time. I wasn't horrid! Grin

35andThriving · 18/07/2021 14:51

AnnaSW1- I was horrid at the time but I am glad I got to see their true colours really. I hope that the same is true for you. Flowers

@Youvegotafriendinme are you my sister?!Grin

KirstenBlest · 18/07/2021 12:05

Lovely

FriedasCarLoad · 17/07/2021 23:57

Beautiful name.

Being 40, I have known many, many Emmas. None of them horrible, most of them lovely, and that makes me like the name even more!

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 17/07/2021 23:42

It's on my top 3 list of girls names

Youvegotafriendinme · 17/07/2021 23:42

I think it’s a lovely name but have to agree with pp, never met a nice one and that includes my sister

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/07/2021 23:34

Emma is very classic - it's just like many names it has rises and falls in popularity (it's currently fairly popular but as a traditional name it's unlikely to especially date her). Jane Austen's eponymous heroine is a fun namesake and it's a nice, easy to say and spell name imo.

Carrotca · 17/07/2021 22:55

boring

Passthesauce · 17/07/2021 22:45

It's a beautiful, classic name.
And so much less prevalent now.
DD1 would have been Emma but it really, really did not go with DH's surname.

She likes the sound of it and said we should have used my surname instead of DH'S Grin

TheWashingMachine · 17/07/2021 22:32

I love it, always makes me think of Madame Bovary one of my favourite novels. If I had another daughter it would probably be my top choice.

resm · 17/07/2021 22:30

I really like Emma and would be all over it if someone I knew used that name recently, not one you really hear anymore in my experience. I much prefer it to the thousand and one Ellas & Emilys.

AnnaSW1 · 17/07/2021 22:26

@35andThriving same here!

DeadButDelicious · 17/07/2021 21:17

I'm an Emma. When I was little in the 80's/90's I was one of many, many, many Emma's but now you don't hear it so often.

I only know one baby Emma and she's a lovely child. I used to think it was a boring name but now I quite like it.

MindyStClaire · 17/07/2021 21:02

Love it. But one of my oldest and dearest friends is called Emma and so I wouldn't use it because I already have an Emma in my life.

SugarbabyMilly · 17/07/2021 21:01

I never used to like it but it's grown on me. It's more popular in the US than it is here.

Garfunkle · 17/07/2021 20:28

There’s nothing wrong with Emma. It’s timeless, pretty much like Charlotte, Emily, Lucy.

I much prefer Emma to Ella - or even worse Ellie or Amelia 😬

cherryberrylicious · 17/07/2021 20:26

Emma is a gorgeous, timeless name. Only ever met lovely Emma's

PocahontasMcGinty · 17/07/2021 20:25

The best name. It's classic. Always used so not prone to naming fads. But not overly used at the moment, so not ever 2nd kid is called Emma.

Emily is more popular but nowhere near as nice in my opinion

I have never met a horrible Emma.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 17/07/2021 20:18

I like Emma.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 17/07/2021 20:16

I like Emma -- it's classic, pretty and unremarkable in the best way: by that I mean that it isn't dated or too fashionable, it isn't associated with a specific person or a specific social class, it's easily pronounced and spelt and has been around a long time.

My own name is similar (think Anna, Hannah, type thing) -- and though I thought it boring as a child in the 80s (when I was desperate to be called Joanne or Jenna or Samantha!), now I am hugely grateful my parents chose a very classic, classless name which doesn't pigeonhole me but is still pretty and simple.

Emmas can go anywhere - plumber or baroness - and it goes back a long way, as a pp said. I like it!

AnnaSW1 · 17/07/2021 20:14

Love Emma

newtolineofduty · 17/07/2021 20:10

It's nice but I think it rhymes abit too much with tessa. What was your original name? Xx

blahblahblah321 · 17/07/2021 20:08

As an early 80's baby, I went to school with a million Emma's ( ok slight exaggeration)

I love it, very classic and think to suits all age groups
