Which baby names would you use if you didn't have to consider connotations, public perception or fear of ridicule?

Strawberry(I love the sound but would never use it IRL.
Pepper(No idea why mine are food related.

For a boy.
Fox(That one is used I know)
Darwin
Sailor
Horatio

There's more but I've suddenly forgotten them.

What names would you use if you had complete freedom to choose?

ButterscotchWhip · 23/07/2021 13:50

Wouldn't dare do it to a child, but I love the name Sylvester!

Since having my son in 2018 I've come across a Roosevelt (a girl), Blaise, Jaxon (which I think is awful but to each their own), Atticus, Santiago...but I do live in North London.

I recently watched Masterchef US Junior and there was a girl whose name was Justice which I thought was out there until her family came to visit, bringing with them her sister who was called Journey. Shock. It also had a female Cydney and a couple of other boys used for girls' names. Another US show had a female Taylor.

Tiger Lily (girl) Roux (boy)
Roux? That's a white sauce made with flour and milk. That really is the most out there so far. Like wanting to call a child Gravy.
bleachblondemom · 20/07/2021 20:42

I love Ancient Greek names like Athena, Apollo, Persephone, Artemis etc. Could never get away with using them but I love them.

@girlmama32

I looked after a little girl called Navy James a few years ago, loved the name since but I don't think I'd use it IRL.

For a boy I like Hudson, Wells, Grey, Beckett, Stanley, Rhett, Edison.
For a girl my faves are Lainey, Aubrie, Darby, Beatrix, Callie, Alba, Reesa.

I think Navy James is a lovely name.
username18702 · 20/07/2021 15:30

@popcorndiva

Angel delight as a middle name for DD. I do joke to DH about it, but it could easily be a name

For a boy it would be Tiger

I knew a girl called Angel Delight.
VoyageInTheDark · 20/07/2021 15:29

I really like Sailor too OP

I also like

Raven
Demelza
Isadora
Clover
River
Arrietty
Amberley
Pixie

DH didn't like any of my more out there choices so we ended up quite conventional

StevieNix · 20/07/2021 15:06

Tigerlily
Goldie

Lysander
Caspian

BunnyRuddington · 20/07/2021 14:54

Lots and lots of these names I've met in RL so not really that out there.

You should definitely go with the name you love Smile

LittleGwyneth · 20/07/2021 14:45

Oh I forgot Mirabel, Daphne and Myfanwy.

LittleGwyneth · 20/07/2021 14:43

Girls: Loveday, Persephone, Romilly, Dimanche.

Boys: Caspian, Willoughby, Rafferty, Faraday

AnxiousAnnie86 · 19/07/2021 13:17

I really wanted to call my dd Birdie but husband wouldn't go for it!

17caterpillars1mouse · 19/07/2021 09:32

Thought of some more I really like

Comfort
Tiger-lily

I really wanted Daffodil for a girl but nobody liked it (I wanted to nn her affectionate dilly-daff - possibly pregnancy hormones lol), then I wanted it as a mn but we gave dd an usual virtue name so decided to give her a more normal mn. I still regret not using it as a mn

I also like Tulip, Petunia, Lilac, Lavender, Magnolia and Petal, Marigold which I guess isn't so out there and sunflower - strictly mn and Rosehip but again mn only otherwise she'd just end up being called Rose / Rosie

Also love Hebe and would seriously consider it if I were to have a third girl

whatausername · 18/07/2021 18:38

Benedicte
Hortensia
Henrietta (somewhat 'clunky' for RL)
Frideswide
Lilith
Emerald (not out there but sometimes swing between it being okay and it being in the "Krystal Chantal" camp)

Augustus
Heathcliff (good name, arsehole but abused character)
Tiberius
Isambard

35andThriving · 18/07/2021 17:54

Also, I like Forest and Kester.
