Ethan maybe tooooo popular?! I am liking the name more but it's a bit nothingy to me which I don't think is good when it's your baby!

To me it sounds like the noise of the wind under the door.

Thanks everyone. Results are in and maybe OTT but I have totted them up

most to least popular were

  • Ethan
  • Jesse
  • Douglas
  • Seth
  • Ace

A few people mentioned girliness of Jesse/insult but I think it's a strong name I've always liked so not made these associations.

Seth I have been saying out loud and agree it's not quite right for me
Less said about Ace the better (maybe good for film stars kids 🤣🤣🤣)

Thanks for your help... I guess generally everyone has different preferences and the child will grow with their name anyway but interesting to hear anonymous thoughts

Right so if you've narrowed it Jesse or Ethan I'd have to go with Ethan although I agree with the PO who said everyone they knew names Ethan was annoying, unfortunately, that's my experience as well.

There was a largish man in our village called Jesse when I was growing up, I'd regularly hear people making unkind comments, just never to his face though. I can imagine it was quite a rough ride when he was younger and in school.

Seth - I really dislike this. It’s so miserable sounding. Any speech difficulties and it is really tricky too.
Jesse - I like it but still to used as an insult to give it as a name.
Ethan - really like it and only know three of different ages.

Douglas - Love this! Dougie and Doug are great too.
Ace (wildcard) - no.

Seth - I love this
Jesse (my fave) - I really like this too. I would worry that there are quite a lot of ignorant people out there who might not realise this is a boys' name though. I do really like it though
Ethan - it's ok. I find it a little dull.
Douglas - I like this too but prefer Seth or Jesse
Ace (wildcard) - I hate this - sounds tacky in my view.
I would go for Seth Douglas or Jesse Ethan myself.
