DS2 is now 10 days old but doesn’t have a name - Otto or Rafe

Hi All,
Our DS2 is now 10 days old and we haven’t been able to make a final decision on names! We’re looking for something that isn’t stupidly popular but also not too far off the beaten track. Our two final options are Otto and Rafe.

If it matters we’re based in SE England near London and surname is Carroll.

I’d welcome any opinions on either name - as we can’t pick between the two!

Leo is a lovely name, why not use it as a first name?

Dozer · 15/07/2021 16:01

Otto.

Rafe is too posh and close to ‘rape’

MarianneUnfaithful · 15/07/2021 15:59

Otto Leo is too ‘o’-ey.

Newdadadvice · 15/07/2021 15:47

To answer a few questions
DS1 is Benji (Benjamin)
We’re considering either Otto Leo or Rafe Otto as first-middle name combos
Whilst DS2 is 10 days old he did spend 6 days in neonatal and we decided we weren’t going to focus on names until we were home - we’ve been trying to use names, however have found that between missing my wife between sleeps and childcare for DS1 we’ve not had much opportunity to use them in conversation!!

Rafe! It’s a superb name.

Newdadadvice · 15/07/2021 15:43

Thanks - Rafe rhymes with Safe!

I like both but prefer Rafe , also Otto is my dogs name and we do know quite a lot of dogs called Otto.

orangejuicer · 15/07/2021 15:25

I'm not fussed on either but have you tried it out - practising the name may sway you either way.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/07/2021 15:24

I like Otto I can't comment on Rafe as I have no idea how its pronounced. Confused

MrsBungle · 15/07/2021 15:05

Love Rafe

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 15/07/2021 15:04

I actually agree with people who say that if you haven't decided yet then pick neither.

I was the same with one of our boys' middle name. after 4 days a friend made me see sense, that it's because I didn't like either.
we went with a 3rd option

MarianneUnfaithful · 15/07/2021 15:02

Otto Rafe Carroll

QueenJulian · 15/07/2021 14:15

Rafe

Colinthecaterpillar35 · 15/07/2021 14:14

Rafe gets my vote Smile

Uramaki · 15/07/2021 14:13

Have you tried flipping a coin?
Or read out a list of names and see if there's any sort of response from him?

GreenCrayon · 15/07/2021 14:11

I think if you're struggling to decide it might be that neither is "the one".

I agree with this. If after 10 days you still have not settled on either I would go back to the drawing board. If one of them was meant to be his name I think it would have become obvious in the past 10 days.

I used to know a lovely boy called Dexter who shared your surname. He 2 brothers called Matthew and Liam if that's any help. Smile

NameChange30 · 15/07/2021 14:04

What is DS1 called?
Any other names on the list?
I don't like either I'm afraid and I think if you're struggling to decide it might be that neither is "the one".

Crockof · 15/07/2021 14:02

Neither if 10 days in one hasn't stuck. Lewis obviously works, Laurie, Seth?

Theraindropontherose · 15/07/2021 14:02

Love Rafe, very classy.

EssentialHummus · 15/07/2021 14:01

Congrats! I much prefer Rafe with your surname.

elfran · 15/07/2021 14:01

Congratulations! I love Rafe, was on our list had DD been a boy.

Dollpiglet · 15/07/2021 14:01

Otto doesn't sit well with your surname because they're both two syllables

toolazytothinkofausername · 15/07/2021 14:01

Oscar George Carroll.

barbrahunter · 15/07/2021 14:00

What lovely names! Why not have both names, obviously one as a first and one as a second. And congratulations!

OhWifey · 15/07/2021 13:59

Have you looked at the meaning of both names to see if that would swing it?
