Hannah/Hanna or Livia as first name - help I'm stuck!

DP and I have narrowed our names down to Livia, nickname Liv, or Hannah, possibly spelt Hanna which would be the spelling in my native country. I really can't make my mind up, I think both names are lovely in their own way. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated!

I read that Livia might be mistaken for Olivia, but is that a problem? Would the spelling 'Hanna' seem strange, being in the UK?

For middle names we're considering Rose or Orla Rose.

Hanna

peaceinourtime · 23/08/2021 17:17

The name Livia always reminds me of tinea, don't know why.

joystir59 · 23/08/2021 06:22

I prefer Liv to Livia. I know a 8 year old called Daisy Liv which works well. Hanna instead of Hannah is fine in the UK.

SeoultoSeoul · 23/08/2021 06:20

Livia Orla Rose is nice.
Hanna(h) Orla Rose (HOR) is awful, just because of the initials. Shock

Livvielo · 21/08/2021 22:38

@NordicNoirRocks

Is seems Hannah/Hanna is the winner, and I’m chuffed that so many like Hannah Orla Rose, as that’s my preferred name combo, but not DP’s! Grin
My daughter is Hannah Rosalie. I love her name and so does she. My name is Livia Faye.
Livvielo · 21/08/2021 22:36

So strange I’ve just seen this post. I’m Livia and my daughter is Hannah. Grin
I love my name but I get Lydia or Olivia constantly, especially on the phone!! It never translates well, and it is tiresome having to repeat it and spell it all the time!
Hannah- with the H definitely, or she will spend her lifetime saying ‘Hanna without an H’

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 21/08/2021 21:45

Lydia instead of Livia? Livia seems incomplete, will get lots assuming it's a typo.

inpixiehollow · 21/08/2021 20:34

I love Livia it was on my list for my daughter but didn't get used. Personally I think its a bit 'fresher' than Hannah.

WimpoleHat · 21/08/2021 11:11

Hannah. Otherwise she will spend her life saying either “without the h. No, the h on the end” or “no, without the O at the front”.

manhattenrain · 21/08/2021 11:09

I like Livia. If you choose Hannah, I'd definitely keep the H on the end.Smile

midsomermurderess · 18/07/2021 16:56

It's not about you, Tatiana. And you are also very rude. Everywhere you go.

4PawsGood · 18/07/2021 10:45

Also not dim and had not heard of Livia. I think most people will mishear it in person which will be really annoying.
I’d go just Liv. I presume you don’t like Libby? That would be a close alternative.

Hannah is nice but pretty popular. Either spelling is fine.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 18/07/2021 10:34

I’m not dim. Well, I have a Masters degree! But I didn’t know the story of Livia and thought it was a shortening of Olivia.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 18/07/2021 10:32

Hannah Orla Rose flows much better to me than Hannah Rose Orla.

Prefer Hannah to Livia.

Chilldonaldchill · 17/07/2021 17:35

I think most people will recognise that Livia is an old Roman name. I prefer it to Hannah personally. I do think some people might assume they're mishearing Olivia but it's popular enough that I don't think that will be everyone.
I prefer the Hanna spelling to Hannah personally (I'm not a fan of palindromes although I do like Anna) but I do think Hannah would be much easier to live with in the UK (but not that Hanna is impossible).

Ellmau · 17/07/2021 15:22

I think Livia is a great name. Hanna is OK, but a little plain for me.

NeedNewKnees · 17/07/2021 11:26

[quote cunningplan101]I don't think anyone has mentioned that Livia was the wife of the Roman Emperor Augustus. She was a very strong character but also rather machiavellian - plotting to make sure her son Tiberius became emperor. At least in modern literary accounts (I Claudius) ... which might not be historically accurate:

That’s my main association (I clearly read I, Claudius too frequently as a teen). History definitely supports that she was Machiavellian and had many people exiled and/or killed.

Livia is the scheming murdering monster. Absolutely terrifying. They used the same name for Tony Soprano’s scheming (attempted) murdering monster mother too.

On the contrary that’s why I think most people can cope with Livia.

KiestenBlest · 16/07/2021 15:28

You seem to think that most people are super-dim and inferior.

TatianaBis · 16/07/2021 15:18

I don't care what most people think, personally.

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2021 15:12

I know that and you know that, but my guess is that most people won't.

TatianaBis · 16/07/2021 15:04

Who's most people? No-one I know.

It's Italian.

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2021 14:51

@TatianaBis

Hannah is a really boring name.

Livia is very pretty. I think most people can grasp it’s not a shortening of Olivia unless they’re super dim?

Most people will think Livia is Olivia without the O.
SoapboxFox · 16/07/2021 06:39
