It is my all time favourite boys name. I've thought for a while that it would really catch on and start to climb in popularity but so far it hasn't. So what does everyone think of Lysander?

Not for me, it worked for Shakespeare but hasn't stood the test of time. I can imagine it being shorted to Sandy or Xander a bit like Alexander.

I love it! Zander/Xander is a great shortening.

CliffsofMohair · 14/07/2021 19:52

At least one other MNer has a Lysander

1Wanda1 · 14/07/2021 19:52

I once heard a mother calling her sons in the park: "LYSANDER! HECTOR! ACHILLES!"

Pretentious.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/07/2021 19:51

Toilet cleaner.

SpamIAm · 14/07/2021 19:51

I think it's dreadful.

HasaDigaEebowai · 14/07/2021 19:50

I’d have used it if I had another boy

TyneTeas · 14/07/2021 19:50

Only know it as a WWII aircraft

LemonRoses · 14/07/2021 19:49

No it sounds like nit lotion or a disinfectant.

DramaAlpaca · 14/07/2021 19:49

I'm going to use it on my next cat.

HoldingTheDoor · 14/07/2021 19:48

It's awful.

Tangeloincognito · 14/07/2021 19:47

Shakespearean

Bit pretentious

Reallyreallyborednow · 14/07/2021 19:46

I love it. I do associate it a bit with Jilly Cooper and hot sunny days bed hopping in the Gloucester countryside, but in an affectionate way. It makes me smile :).

Can always have xander as a nickname too.

broodyas · 14/07/2021 19:45

I think it's gorgeous and would happily use it but DH wouldn't!
