I've checked previous threads and they're quite a few years old. What are current thoughts on this name? We keep returning to it but wonder whether we should just put it to rest?

We already have a Hugo.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I would expect him to be either half wolf, rapacious or hard of thinking and have no idea why. Also, it sounds like somewhere you take a train to when you're on holiday.

You're getting into dangerous territory with a Latin name when no one knows their Latin anymore.

pallisers · 14/07/2021 00:23

I'd presume he was the child of very catholic parents (and possibly where the dad had gone to Jesuit high school).

I don't think it sounds that nice either. The only cool about it is that people don't really use it anymore.

olidora63 · 14/07/2021 00:23

Definitely not if my child but I think a child’s name is such a personal choice.💐

Zorya · 14/07/2021 00:20

I like it. Nate for short is nice.

marshmallowmilk · 14/07/2021 00:18

hope you’re joking

Kanaloa · 14/07/2021 00:06

Wouldn’t be for me, it’s quite a ‘lot’ of name if you know what I mean. If you were a flamboyant, confident type of person it would be really cool, but if you were more quiet and reserved it’s very stand-out.

EmJo1 · 14/07/2021 00:02

Some strong opinions! I appreciate it. It seems very polarising so I'm inclined to scrap it...

I absolutely love it. Was on my list of boy names, but I didn't get to use it. So cool. NN Iggy. Fab.

ContessaVerde · 13/07/2021 23:55

Ignacio is better, another good Spanish Saint is Isidro.

ParsleyDill · 13/07/2021 23:50

I know two — one an academic in his 60s, the other a fearsomely cool twelve year old. Both known as Iggy.

I like it.

DramaAlpaca · 13/07/2021 23:49

Very Catholic and far too much.

DamsonJammyBastard · 13/07/2021 23:44

I'd assume devout Catholic parents. I know an Ignatius who changed his name to Tom.

NuffSaidSam · 13/07/2021 23:44

I do agree that how many eyebrows are raised will depend on location.

In London, not a single eyebrow. Wouldn't even register.

NuffSaidSam · 13/07/2021 23:43

I know a newborn Ignatius nn Iggy.

I think it's fine.

I don't think he'll stand out amongst all the other 'unusual' names.

OneMoreForExtra · 13/07/2021 23:39

GrinGrinGrin Good one

Oh, wait...

Neighneigh · 13/07/2021 23:37

Super religious, Ignatius Loyola started the Jesuits.

Tbh if you live in Grimsby, no. If you live in Shoreditch, possibly yes.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 13/07/2021 23:35

Absolutely not.

UpInTheAttic · 13/07/2021 23:32

Awful.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/07/2021 23:30

Poor kid would be forever getting 'he's no saint'.
(Well, unless he was but normal kids aren't)

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 13/07/2021 23:26

A monks name. Sorry OP.

LemonRoses · 13/07/2021 23:26

I quite like it though. Iggy is nice.

Honeybeebloom · 13/07/2021 23:23

Very Catholic

That's exactly what I was going to say.

PinkSkyPurple · 13/07/2021 23:23

Please don't name your child that!

LemonRoses · 13/07/2021 23:21

Very Catholic.

First reactions

Ignorant/ignorance/Ignoble

Ignatius Peverell (Harry Potter, Deathly Hallows)

Ignatius of Antioch, which popped up as a distant memory of something churchy.
