Final girl names, how is it so hard?

I love this community so please help me choose our daughter's name from our finalists. You would not believe how difficult it has been to find names that we both like and that work promounciation wise in our three languages (English,French,Finnish).

Please be kind as these are our finalists and I'm already having a lot of anxiety for this. Middle names are Ida and Aurelia that are in our family.

Freya Ida Aurelia - I know this is popular but Freya is a cool nudge to our nordic background. Nn Frey Frey or Ray is nice

Amélie Ida Aurelia - love nn Millie, Mimi, Lili and that also all grandparents can pronounce

Léa Ida Aurelia - popular in France and Finland. The accent might make it a bit confusing but we wouldn't mind both pronounciations Lee-a and Ley-ah.

Other names we loved but didn't work for different reasons: Iris, Frida, Thea, Ella, Vivian, Sylvia, Edith, Lucy

How about Eva or Anna? they work in many different languages.

Bobbots · 12/07/2021 08:52

Also I would say that you are probably not going to find “the one” name that you love. That’s ok though! I have two daughters and their two names are probably not my favourite names in the whole world. But you have to choose something where you are happy with the shortening (nickname), the pronunciation, that goes with your surname etc so it is a practical choice as well as an emotional one.

honeylou42 · 12/07/2021 08:52

@Challengerice Rude 🤬
They are all beautiful names, but I think Freya is the nicest 😊

Bobbots · 12/07/2021 08:51

I had almost all of those names on my list for DD2!

I love Freya but it is very popular, top 10 for a while. Not sure if that bothers you as the other names are all more unusual. Frida is a nice variation but much less common?

Frida Aurelia Ida is lovely.

I’m not that keen on Lea. Linnea is a nice alternative.

@CrouchEndTiger12

If it is causing you anxiety then I'd say you don't actually like any of them enough if there isn't one you're drawn to.

You can just give a child a name you just like you know. It doesn't have to give a nod to everyone's heritage, you can call a child any name you like if you like it.

They're all a bit fussy. I'd go for Lea as there won't be many. The initials would spell the name too in a way LIA.

You are right, none of these are my top favourites. The names that I loved didn't work for pronounciation/other issues.

The family names I do actually love, but otherwise it has really been hard trying to find something that is nice/my husband and I pronounce somewhat similarily/ is considered a name in all of our countries. For instance botanical names Hazel, Violet, Ivy that I love are not working so well in our other countries, and the same with Zoey, Imogen, Penelope, Phoebe etc.

Basically 90% of our multilingual friends go with Mia, Amelia, Olivia, Emma, Ella, Sofia, Julia. But they are just so common.. I'm trying to find something not totally common but that we also like 😔

Lea will be written by people without any accent and pronounced Lee. If you want it pronounced Lee-ah then I would spell it Leah?

Peachbubble · 12/07/2021 08:39

Another vote for Lea. Second choice would be Freya, not so keen on Amelie.

Qqq67 · 12/07/2021 08:38

They’re all lovely, but my vote goes to Léa. I also really like Aurelia as a first name.

These names are all very pretty, my favourite is Iris.

StepladderToHeaven · 12/07/2021 08:31

Freya is my favourite

finova · 12/07/2021 08:28

@PaddleBoardingMomma
Totally agree

otterbaby · 12/07/2021 08:26

@Challengerice what an absolute misery you are.

I like Freya the most, but all 3 are lovely!

PaddleBoardingMomma · 12/07/2021 08:24

@Challengerice

“How did you decide my name mummy?”

“I asked mumsnet, an anonymous chat forum”

"How did you used to spend your spare time mummy? Did you have any hobbies?"

"I liked to be a cow on forums and anonymously be shitty to people I don't know, I feel it really completed me as a person after you were born and my life felt hollow"

Obakarama · 12/07/2021 08:24

Lea, more unusual, short, works in various languages

reprehensibleme · 12/07/2021 08:24

I'd choose Lea of the three - Freya is so popular at the moment, Amelie is very early 2000's Grin and obviously became popular because of the film.

I actually love some of the names on your longer list - Thea, Edith, Vivian (although I'd probably use Vivienne).

Also, if you use Lea of Freya, all names end in 'a' sound - maybe a bit much (although middle names won't be used regularly).

finova · 12/07/2021 08:23

I like Amelia and Freya

Aurelia is lovely, would you consider as a 1st name?

How about Lara, Sophia, Anya, Matilda?

periwinkle86 · 12/07/2021 08:22

I like Freya best, but I’m biased because I know the most wonderful adult Freya who is just a fabulous inspirational person! Lea second, and then Amelie - for some reason it feels a little too close to Aurelia for me, though that’s probably just in my head.

I don’t envy you - it’s hard enough finding a name that we like in one language, let alone three! Good luck!

HJN28 · 12/07/2021 08:22

Freya is beautiful! It is on my list 😃

Alfxn · 12/07/2021 08:19

They are all fabulous choices, and Ilove the middle names as well! I agree Léa would maybe stand out as more unique in the UK at least? But all lovely!

BunnyRuddington · 12/07/2021 08:18

I agree about Amelie, beautiful name but may be a bit dated now. It was very popular after the film came out.

All of the names are beautiful though Smile

MissMissTorrance · 12/07/2021 08:17

Lea

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 12/07/2021 08:15

I can't choose, I think they're all lovely! Smile

xoJellybean · 12/07/2021 08:14

@Challengerice unnecessary!
