Not made it up, it's from the bible. How would you pronounce it?

Best friend's name. She now goes by a nickname (Daisy) as she got 'Damn' as a nickname in primary school. She pronounces it Da-ma-ris (phonetically) but the majority of people pronounce it as Da- MARR-is.

Without having heard it spoken before, I would think

"Duh-marr-iss" with the emphasis on the 'm.'

I quite like it (if that's how it's pronounced).

I'd pronounce it da-MAHH-riss, with the stress on the second syllable.

I quite like it, it's striking and strong.

Oh and the way she pronounced it, there was no "damn" sound - from what I remember probably the most emphasis was on the middle syllable.

Lovely - sounds strong, elegant and unusual/exotic imo. I knew one at school, she pronounced it "Dah -marr -iss".

In the US it's pronounced

I would pronounce it Da-Mar-is and I quite liked it.

But hearing others would pronounce it Dam-a-ris is making me reconsider. That doesn't sound all that good to me.

I would pronounce it Dam-a-ris, phonetically. It’s unusual and not my cup of tea.
