The chlamydia thing wouldn't have occurred to me. I feel so wholesome! Grin

Blue4YOU · 10/07/2021 13:15

Well my DD is only little and she’s disabled so I doubt people will say that to her or me (plus I’d bury them with telling them off if they did).
To be honest it wouldn’t bother me because it’s a daft thing (I’d never have thought of it if I hadn’t seen it on MN) that adults won’t think and children, only teens I suppose.
The short answer is no. I’d never let stuff that that put me off a name.

She gets called Olivia sometimes because of my accent though

LewishamMum · 10/07/2021 11:22

@Blue4YOU
I'm seriously thinking of using it for my next, is the chlamydia thing an issue? It had never entered my head until this thread! (I suppose it depends a bit on the age of your DD.)

Sleepinghyena · 10/07/2021 10:29

It was very popular around 16/17 years ago. So there will be a fair few teens with the name. It's a beautiful name - only thing that put me off using it was how it was said in the accent of where we were living at the time.

Blue4YOU · 10/07/2021 10:24

I’ve got a Lydia!!!

LewishamMum · 10/07/2021 10:24

More to the point, I love Lydia. Find the "old" association odd - it's too unusual to have strong associations I think, but would seriously think about giving it to a future DD.
Never heard of the STD link but as someone said everyone name rhymes with something or other revolting if you try hard enough.

LewishamMum · 10/07/2021 10:22

@cariadlet
Well Lydia Bennett has a personality which Kitty, arguably Jane and lots of 19th century women in novels don't. And her personality is better than Mary's. Plus 15 year olds are all a bit ghastly, and she didn't exactly have the best parents to give her a start in life.
Lizzie is unrealistic - being really rude to the richest, swankiest man in the land when you've got little to offer, and still marrying him? Not very likely!

LizzieSiddal · 09/07/2021 22:39

Beautiful name

Classica · 09/07/2021 22:37

She was a classic good time girl

SmackMyAssnCallMeJudy · 09/07/2021 22:35

@Phyllis321

Love it. Always my favourite Bennett sister. Classic and elegant.
Lydia Bennet certainly was not ‘classic’ or ‘elegant’! Grin
CharityPecksniff · 09/07/2021 22:26

I like it. Also the French version, Lydie.

badgerswitharms · 09/07/2021 22:24

I'm a lydia and have never had the chlamydia connection mentioned to my face.

The nicknames are a bit shit but generally like my name.

HappydaysArehere · 09/07/2021 22:19

Probably be shortened to Lydd.

Kanaloa · 09/07/2021 21:30

It’s nice. Maybe lowering the tone a bit as it reminds most people of Austen, but it makes me think of the tv programme Teen Wolf! I think it’s a fine name.

WhenZoomWasJustAnIceLolly · 09/07/2021 18:53

I think it’s a gorgeous name

WallaceinAnderland · 09/07/2021 18:53

Love it.

EssentialHummus · 09/07/2021 18:53

Weirdly my main association to it is that it’s the username of a very strident lady on the equivalent of Mumsnet for lawyers (though she’s on here too) Confused. So that puts me off a bit. But I know a lovely one who must be about five now.

Sorry, not very helpful!

SunSeaSurfGin · 09/07/2021 18:46

I really like it

Would use it on a future DD but have bad connotations with someone

PinkSkiesAtNight · 09/07/2021 18:45

I had a Lidia. Spelling because we are duo-nationality family. She was known as Liddie. I think it is beautiful.

Echobelly · 09/07/2021 18:44

I really like it

Ellmau · 09/07/2021 18:43

Very pretty.

MissMissTorrance · 09/07/2021 17:24

I don't know why but I always picture a ladybird 🐞

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2021 17:09

I adore it.

Phantasmo · 09/07/2021 11:44

Lydia Bennet. Brazen strumpet.

It's a nice name.

Phyllis321 · 09/07/2021 11:41

I like her because she’s a rebel and feisty.
