The Taming of the Shrew and The Rescuers.

Rapskallion · 08/07/2021 18:25

I did think ‘Rickaaaayyy!’ and ‘Not today, Satan’ Grin.

But I also knew a beautiful, Italian Bianca and I think it’s a name you could easily lose the above connotations once you knew a Bianca. It’s a pretty name.

@Geamhradh

I'm in Italy. It's 146 in the name charts and 20% of those are in one northern region. I've only ever taught one (in 27 years) and have a friend called Bianca, but she's Albanian. It's considered sort of "nouveau" yet old-fashioned at the same time, if that makes sense. Most are in their 40s-50s.
It was the 18th most popular name for baby girls born in 2019 (source ISTAT). It's more common in the north of the country, but it's certainly not unusual anymore.

It’s beautiful!!! The Rickaaaaay thing was when I was about 10 so when I met the Bianca in my son’s class it did not cross my mind. So it won’t be a problem for kids I’m sure. The bianca we know is 6 and Italian. Lovely classy fresh name.

HoldingTheDoor · 08/07/2021 13:15

I hate it. It has an unpleasant sound.

BingBongToTheMoon · 08/07/2021 13:07

Del Rio.
Fabulous drag queen. Not today Satan.

DerisorySnort · 08/07/2021 11:10

It's quite a nice name if it wasn't for the Eastenders connection

But that will be nonexistent to the peer group of a baby being born now, so surely not an issue?
I think it's a lovely name.

seamonster9 · 08/07/2021 11:00

Makes me think of Bianca Pitzorno (Italian children's author) and Bianca Balti.
It's a nice classic, currently a bit overused in Italy.

Chachachawoo · 08/07/2021 09:08

I love it.
The Rickaaay association will be less and less relevant

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 08/07/2021 03:09

It should be the Taming of the Shrew (and thus kind of classy and elegant), but to be honest I also get the opposite vibe too (I think Eastenders has ruined Bianca for while longer, sorry - and I never even watched that programme!).

Maggiesfarm · 07/07/2021 20:50

Please no.

M0rT · 07/07/2021 20:07

10 Things I hate About You, brilliant film!

Viviennemary · 07/07/2021 20:01

It's quite a nice name if it wasn't for the Eastenders connection.

Zarene · 07/07/2021 20:00

I love it. Gorgeous sounding name.

Bianca's not been on Eastenders for ages has she? Surely that will wear off?

finallychangedmyusername · 07/07/2021 19:28

Taming of the Shrew for me.

BashStreet1 · 07/07/2021 19:21

My 1st thought was Bianca Jagger.

My 2nd was Bianca from Eastenders.

I do like the name but NOT when pronounced in my Essex/ Cockney accent!

MurielSpriggs · 07/07/2021 19:15

Rhyming slang

FayeFayeFayeFayeFaye · 07/07/2021 19:15

No one will associate it with Eastenders that she knows. It’s a nice name, unusual in the sea of Evies.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 07/07/2021 19:14

*thought

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 07/07/2021 19:14

Bianca Jagger was my first though. I think it's pretty.

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 07/07/2021 19:12

BianKA is how I hear it. Hard ending. Unattractive.

She wears a silver puffer and has many many kids…

ggoodger · 07/07/2021 19:09

I think its a lovely name and have considered it myself!

Some people will pronounce it differently - Bee-ank-ah or Bee-onk-ah.

Seesawmummadaw · 07/07/2021 18:46

@LaMarschallin Bianca Jagger was my first thought too.

Seesawmummadaw · 07/07/2021 18:46

I think it depends on your accent tbh! It’s a lovely name but in some accents sounds quite awful.
