Thoughts on Rosabelle

Thoughts on Rosabelle, Rosabella and Rosabel? Reading thread about Florabelle has left me wondering do you ladies have same feeling about every similar name.
Rosa Belle/-a and Rosa-Belle/-a aren't an options.

Based on similar thread by another user I would just want to point a few things:
Having frilly, feminine qualities is not a crime. Everyone chooses what's best for their family. If you sweat by mere idea of frilly, keep in mind some can like these sorts of things.
Your behavior and character can affect your life much more greatly than simple name.
Tomboys are still a girls

Definitely a name for a boat!
Rose, Rosie, Rosa, Rosalie, Rosalind all ok. Rosabelle is just too much and sounds made up.

HelebethH · 08/07/2021 09:27

How about Rosalia (pronounced Rose ah leah) . Has the option of being shortened to Rose, Rosie, or Leah

DerisorySnort · 08/07/2021 09:15

I'm not keen. It does sound a bit contrived and overembellished. I think just Rose or Isabel would be nicer.

And OP, don't forget you asked for people's opinions, so it's a wee bit silly to get annoyed in advance (or afterwards) at the responses.

Katefoster · 07/07/2021 20:38

I really like it

Yellowmoons · 07/07/2021 20:37

I'm not a fan, sorry - I think it sounds a bit made up. Mirabel or Annabel sound nicer to me if you're keen on the 'belle' names. I really like Rose / Rosa / Rosalie, but Rosabelle is definitely too frilly for my taste. Personally, I prefer names which i feel suit both a little girl and a grown woman, and that's my issue with so called 'frilly' names. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with using a 'frilly' name if that what you like - plenty of people love them - but if you're asking for people's opinions you kind of need to accept that other people will often have different tastes and a different point of view to you - choose a name you love and don't worry about what anyone else thinks - it would be dull if we all loved the same names.

GlamGiraffe · 07/07/2021 20:23

I reallylike the name Rosabel. A friend named her daughter it and she is now a teenager, she sometimes gets called rosie. I've heard so many people in real life (not necessarily to the mother) commenting that its a lovely name. Its not a wildly unusual name where i live (as in i've come acctoss a couple), its a pretty name and if you really like it definitely choose it. Its quite possibly a "marmite" name. I'm well aware my dughter has one if those names and i know lts one people dislike it however it isnt their name or their child. We made the decision based on our likes. People wont comment to you if they dislike it once you have named your child even if they dont like it, the name becomes irelevant and they acept the child as a person. Chose what you love.

DennisTMenace · 07/07/2021 20:12

I like Isobel, but not so much Rosabel. Mainly because all the Rosalind's I have ever met become Roz and I find it sounds quite harsh. I do like Rosalie and Roise. Although Roise probably has a lifetime of Rosie to look forward to if you are in England.

miltonj · 07/07/2021 18:22

I don't mind 'frilly' names, but I don't like Rosabelle or any variants. How about Lucinda?

chickenyhead · 07/07/2021 18:10

@Synchrony

I like Rosabel. I would pronounce it Roz-ah-bell unless corrected.

Don’t base your name choices on Mumsnet opinions!

I think that's what put me off it. Imagining a policeman in a tutu.
LtDansleg · 07/07/2021 17:59

Nothing wrong with it.

Rococo is very much not to everyone’s taste. I agree it’s not a crime to give a frilly feminine name. Not everyone favours short androgynous names.

The problem with Rosabelle is what the French call ‘voulu’. I suppose the translation would be deliberate - or even the favourite phrase on here ‘try hard’.

LadySorceress · 07/07/2021 17:54

I can imagine someone getting short end of stick if they behave like a cow, that's where education and raising kids matter. Not name.

LadySorceress · 07/07/2021 17:52

I'm no angry, I should known this would happen.

I never, ever been bad towards someone if I disliked his name. I can't imagine being disrespectful to judge if she has name I don't like. I can imagine judge called Condoleezza, surprise surprise, and I can't imagine job interview where diploma matters less than someone's name. In today's age, nonetheless.

@CowsEatingAtNight

I can't make decision based on what she might like or what she might not like. Maybe she will hate generic name

Except the opposite of frilly and overblown isn't 'generic'. A whole range of other names are available. Hmm

yes, they are whole range of other types of names. What if she still likes being named Rosabelle? What if, gasps, overblown and frilly aren't bad things per se. There's whole thing in art called Roccoco that was highly praised.

Having frilly, feminine qualities is not a crime. Everyone chooses what's best for their family.

And that's fine when you're choosing curtains, or a Mn username, but assuming you're not actually saying that your entire family has 'frilly, feminine qualities', this child will be her own independent person, and may despite frills from toddlerhood. Why would you burden her with a name that sounds like an elaborate Victorian china doll because that's your preferred aesthetic? Obviously, you choose names you like, but give her something with a bit more latitude in its connotations.

Are you saying you watched the crystal ball and predicted some girls don't like frilly stuff? What a shock and surprise. You should apply for Nobel prize for most noble predicament.

Although some girls don't like frilly stuff, some girl might love it instead. I can't make decision based on what she might like or what she might not like. Maybe she will hate generic name, and love Rosabelle. Maybe it will be opposite.

Sounds like a ship or a cod gipsy fortune teller.

Love Christabel and Mirabel though. And Rosalie.

LadySorceress · 07/07/2021 17:18

damn it posted so soon. Wanted to tell I haven't considered Florabelle, I'm different user.

Puntosareus · 07/07/2021 17:18

I know 3 little girls called Rosa, it's becoming increasingly popular

LadySorceress · 07/07/2021 17:17

@PearlNextDoor

No, are you the poster who asked about Florabelle?

I almost almost like the names but dislike them as well.

Rosabel doesn't work I don't think but I can imagine Rosa Isabel nn Rosabel

I prefer Rosalía Belinda - omg that does sound so Culebron !

No, but that thread has left me worried Rosabel/lla might fall into same argument, because we are considering this name for daughter, but I would argue Rosabelle and Florabelle aren't so similar, because people had used Rosa + X all the time during history, e.g. Rosaline.

I like Rose and Rosie.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/07/2021 17:12

No, it’s too blowsy.

Theoldwoman · 07/07/2021 17:11

I prefer Annabel.

Not a fan of Rosabelle, Isobel, Christabell, Florabell.
