The Harry Potter character is Madame Maxime.

What about Martine? I quite like it, and Martina.

That1GreenBottle · 08/07/2021 18:45

Erm Maxine is NOT vintage 😂😂😂

MissDollyMix · 08/07/2021 18:44

There was a character in Corrie called Maxine a few years ago. Think she was married to Ashley? Always makes me think of her!

Palavah · 08/07/2021 18:41

I thought Maxine Peake. Wouldn't have thought of Carr.

You might well be ahead of the curve...

AbstractHeart · 08/07/2021 18:41

I really like it

AlmostSummer21 · 08/07/2021 18:40

No, Far too soon

miltonj · 08/07/2021 18:37

I love it. Going to add it to my list for hypothetical second daugher!

Rapskallion · 08/07/2021 18:22

I like Maxine! Maxima is lovely, too.

I didn’t think of Carr at all.

I think it could come back sooner than we think.

thisplaceisweird · 08/07/2021 17:42

Still too 90s! Along with Christina, Kelly and Natalie

Phantasmo · 08/07/2021 17:39

I've decided I'm pro-Maxine. Go for it.

Phantasmo · 08/07/2021 17:32

I don't dislike it. It has a kind of 1980s glamour. I can imagine one of the women in that Robert Palmer video being a Maxine.

It's just a past generation's version of Amelie or Eloise. 30 years from now people will 'ugh' those names too.

AbsolutelySure · 08/07/2021 16:25

No

adrianmolesmole · 08/07/2021 16:19

Not a fan. It's a very dated, 80s 'hard-faced' kind of name, I don't think it should come back at all!

Beamur · 08/07/2021 15:06

I think Maxine Peake too who is very cool..
If you like it, use it. You might be slightly ahead of the curve. 80's names will be popular again.

Seesawmummadaw · 08/07/2021 15:01

It’s quite 80’s. Maybe in another twenty years it will be popular again.
It makes me think of corkscrew perms and leg warmers.

olderthanyouthink · 08/07/2021 15:00

I'm 25, Maxine makes me think of Madame Maxine from Harry Potter. I don't know who Maxine Carr is... I googled, I know who Ian Huntley is.

Myra, I know Myra Hindley but I don't go straight to her.

Longdistance · 08/07/2021 14:42

My sil is a Maxine. She’s great, but she gets called Max.

TheVanguardSix · 08/07/2021 14:30

Sorry... not 24. The Maxine I know is 14!

TheVanguardSix · 08/07/2021 14:30

My friend's DD is Maxine and he sister is Zelda. And Maxine is about 24 now. They're just so, so, so cool as well, the pair of them, and their names add to their character. I love the name Maxine.

liverpoolgal82 · 08/07/2021 14:25

Maybe if you nicknamed her Maxxy (or spelt )Maxxie.

Pemba · 08/07/2021 14:11

I don't like it, but not because of Maxine Carr. I don't think she is very significant. I just think Maxine is not a particularly attractive name. Sorry but it just doesn't seem very classy to me. Sounds like it should be French but in fact, it's not. I know someone who named their daughter Maxima recently, which is a bit better. I think the queen of the Netherlands is Maxima. Unfortunately, the person I know calls the little girl 'Max' for short, which I do think sounds very masculine. Max for a boy is much nicer.

As for Myra, I like it as a name, but obviously it is forever tainted in the UK by the association with Myra Hindley. That will take a long time to go away. I believe it is used in the USA though, obviously they don't have the same associations. It's strange, because I am pretty sure that if it were not for Hindley it would have been popular recently, it fits right in with other names that are currently popular, like Mila, Maya etc.

BunnyRuddington · 08/07/2021 13:49

I just had to Google Maxine Carr - didn't mean anything to me but I wasn't in the U.K. then. I know several Maxines and there's famous (nice) ones too. Myra however is unusual so very different

I always associate Maxine with Maxine Peake might have a bit of a girl crush on her though Grin

ILoveShula · 08/07/2021 12:04

I know a couple of Maxines, both adults.
I quite like it, in that it's a bit different.

I think the parents of one thought they were going to have a boy called Max.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 07/07/2021 08:57

It's never crossed by mind to associate names with criminals. Unless it's both first name and surname. That would be awkward!
