TTC and thinking of names. I'm trying to narrow them down by thinking about whether I'd like to be called it or not and would like to know what others think. Also if youd have any preconceptions about people with this name.

Blair
Blythe
Primrose
Rosamund
Pandora
Perdita
Petronella

Boy's name settled on already. Robert.

Blair. I would have loved a name like that.
Perdita is beautiful and am glad the pp loves her name, but I just think 'lost automatically ( which is weird because if I hear Lucy, I don't think Light, or Peter, I don't think rock.)
I don't really like the others. Blythe- no, because you'd be forever spelling it.
Robert is lovely.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/07/2021 22:32

Robert is very classic, so to me traditional Rosamund fits best with that style (and is my personal favourite of your choices, although I must admit I dislike the nn Roz).

I do have a soft spot for lovely Shakespearean Perdita but that feels "braver" somehow - as does classical Pandora. I do like virtue name Blythe as well (although I prefer it as a middle I think).

Less keen on the "fussy" sound of Petronella (prefer simple, international Petra) and Primrose is quite prissy imo, sorry (it's the "prim"). Blair stands out as very different to your other more classical choices imo - it's really not my taste.

Tavannach · 06/07/2021 22:29

Perdita.

Thecazelets · 06/07/2021 22:26

Primrose makes me think of the dolly in My Naughty Little Sister ( Rosy-Primrose). I like it though. I absolutely love Perdita, and would love it as my own name, but it means 'lost' which would give me pause when naming a baby.

Pigeonorcoot · 06/07/2021 22:18

Rosamund is ok but I wouldn't like to be called any of the others, sorry.

Robert is great though.

Pattygonia · 06/07/2021 22:11

Rosamund and Blythe are my favourites. Least favourite are Pandora (the bracelets) and Petronella. I have a great aunt Primrose but she has always been called “Pommie” - which seems a weird nickname to me, but guess it’s better than Primmy...

MaMelon · 06/07/2021 22:09

Would love to be a Rosamund - very classy and elegant.

No to the others.

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/07/2021 22:07

Sorry missed Primrose... ok.

yikesanotherbooboo · 06/07/2021 22:06

I love Rosamund.
Petronella . Is ok.
I'm not keen on Perdita for its meaning although I like the word iyswim.
Not keen on Pandora for meaning and bracelets.
No to the others.

ElephantCup · 06/07/2021 22:01

I don’t mind Blair, although it does remind me of Tony. I wouldn’t really want to be called any of the others sorry OP

marypoppinsreturns · 06/07/2021 21:57

I like Blair and Blythe, not keen on the others, though I like Rose on its own, not as part of a longer name.

FindingMeno · 06/07/2021 21:57

I would like Blythe or Primrose

AnneShirleysNewDress · 06/07/2021 21:56

Perdita, Rosamund and Blythe are all lovely.

Kollamoolitumarellipawkyrollo · 06/07/2021 21:56

I live Perdita. Fiery and strong!

FriedasCarLoad · 06/07/2021 21:54

Blair - a bit trendy. Don't think it'll date week. I'd assume they were beautiful cut very shallow and self-centred (unfair, I know).

Blythe - I'd assume they were a boy.

Primrose - pretty. Can easily be shortened to Rose if they don't like it. Not my type of name, but perfectly nice and not overused.

Rosamund - absolutely beautiful

Pandora - unfortunate connotation of a box

Perdita - pretty sounding, but I've known three and they were all incredibly vain and only interested in male attention

Petronella - I'd assume a smart background. Not to my taste but a perfectly nice name. Every Petronella I've ever met has been loudly-spoken, even louder-laughing, highly intelligent, confident, attractive and successful. Could be worse!

Robert is a great name and I wish I heard it more.

IggyAce · 06/07/2021 21:52

Blair ok but makes me think of the Blair witch project.
Blythe : ok not my cup of tea.
Primrose: pretty
Rosamund: no ugly.
Pandora: box no.
Perdita: I like, but nn Perdy could lead to Pervy and that could lead to bullying.
Petronella sounds like some bacteria based sickness bug.

@NotNowPlzz

I wouldn't be put off by the jewellery brand.
She might though!

What if it suffered some ethical scandal and that followed her around as everyone's association with her name?

BikeRunSki · 06/07/2021 21:51

The only one I like is Robert

Yellowmoons · 06/07/2021 21:49

My name is Perdita! I never see it mentioned in name lists, so this is quite exciting Smile

Honestly, it's not a name I would have chosen - it feels quite hard to me and doesn't have the nicest meaning. Having said that, I love its links to Shakespeare and the fact that I've never met anyone else with the same name. I get lots of compliments on it. Perdy is a nice nn too

From your other suggestions, I like Rosamund, though prefer Rosa / Rosalie. Not keen on the others, though Primrose would make a nice middle name. Pandora has too much scope for teasing, though I like Dora as a nn - maybe Theodora?

PearlFriday · 06/07/2021 21:48

I love Blaire but put an e on the end.

Blythe is a bit cold and harsh
Petronella no reminds me of that mozzie repellant citronella
Rosamund - ok, but the Mund is a bit harsh
Pandora - no
Perdita - no

MrsAukerman · 06/07/2021 21:47

I only like Rosamund. It's confident sounding and a teensy bit butch (much like myself). The others are all too twee / feminine and / or not clearly names (i.e. Blair).

felulageller · 06/07/2021 21:45

Blair people would assume a boy bit there is value in unisex names
Also associated with tony
Blythe very old fashioned
Primrose most neutral of these names, any class
Rosamund not very pretty I prefer Rosalind
Pandora box/Adrian mole
Perdita the dog in 101 Dalmatians
Petronella too much like petrol

FreeBritnee · 06/07/2021 21:43

I quite like Blair

SinkGirl · 06/07/2021 21:42

I went to school with a Purdey (that was her actual name though) - good nickname for Perdita (although I guess you’d spell it Perdi?)

I wouldn’t particularly like to be named any of these though to be honest.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 06/07/2021 21:41

At a push Blair
