TTC and thinking of names. I'm trying to narrow them down by thinking about whether I'd like to be called it or not and would like to know what others think. Also if youd have any preconceptions about people with this name.

Blair
Blythe
Primrose
Rosamund
Pandora
Perdita
Petronella

Boy's name settled on already. Robert.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pilates · 07/07/2021 06:33

No, sorry I wouldn’t.

Rosamund is ok, but prefer Rosa

StiffyByng · 07/07/2021 02:33

I have misquote A Mole. Oh, for an edit button. To please myself, it should be ‘I implore ye’,

deleteasappropriate · 07/07/2021 01:57

Definitely not Pandora - I immediately remembered the lyrics of A Formidable Marinade - if I put my hand in Pandora's box and I was stricken with a deadly pox. It's a no from me!

AlwaysLatte · 07/07/2021 01:37

I wouldn't like to be called any of those! Pandora is the only one that sounds nice but unfortunately due to the branding that's all you think of. Petronella is awful - reminds me of petrol and citronella combined!

StiffyByng · 07/07/2021 01:33

Pandora,
I adore ya.
I implore thee,
Don’t ignore me.

ElizabethTudor · 07/07/2021 01:33

Blair - I think boys name, so no
Blythe - ok, but a bit wishy washy
Primrose - no
Rosamund - no, prefer Rose
Pandora - no, because of the jewellery brand
Perdita - yes, gorgeous name
Petronella - ok

Happenchance · 07/07/2021 01:28

I would like to be called Rosamund nn Roz or Blythe.

Perdita nn Perdy is OK but I can imagine people saying "you're so perdy" instead of pretty, which would be annoying (especially when said sarcastically by kids at school).

Petronella sounds like the name of an air freshener.

FlyingBattie · 07/07/2021 01:18

I don't like any of them. But Rosamund is the best of a bad bunch, IMO

ErrolTheDragon · 07/07/2021 00:51

Blair -Tony, Witch project... bloody hell no.
Blythe - Not awful but I'm not sure I'd want to be called it
Primrose - might like it as a little girl but not when I was grown up
Rosamund - yes, with Rosie/Rosa NNs, though I'd probably wish you'd gone for Rosalind
Pandora - I'd have disliked it once I knew the myth.
Perdita - no ... sounds too much like perdition.
Petronella - just don't like it.

TwinsAndTrifle · 07/07/2021 00:44

Blair - witch project
Blythe - isn't this similar to a potato disease?
Primrose - not keen
Rosamund - this is ok
Pandora - bracelet
Perdita - don't like, but Perdy as a nn is cute
Petronella - petrolhead

Sorry.

TotorosCatBus · 07/07/2021 00:43

Petronella makes me think of Boris' ex

Blair- Are you a fan of fan of Tony or Gossip Girl?

Blythe- not a fan.

Primrose- Not a fan of the Prim bit
Rosamund- best one
Pandora - box or jewellery brand for me so a ni
Perdita- makes me think of Jillian Cooper. Means lost iirc

TitilatedOcelot · 07/07/2021 00:39

Rosamund or Pandora.
Not keen on the others.

Robert is nice and underused. How about Roberta?

Tulips15 · 07/07/2021 00:34

I only like Primrose.
And If it was my name, I would like to be known as Prim or Rose as a nn only

Benvolio · 07/07/2021 00:31

Robert: my top choice for a boy :)

Benvolio · 07/07/2021 00:31

Primrose is very pretty, but not as lovely a name as Rosalind, who is an amazing person in As like It.

GintyMcGinty · 07/07/2021 00:27

Robert is awesome

Blair - I only know boys and men called this. Good Scottish name. I like it - for boys.
Blythe - meh
Primrose - I only know women in their 80s callled this
Rosamund - a bit Chalet School
Pandora - hello 1980s
Perdita - just no
Petronella - and also no

Benvolio · 07/07/2021 00:26

Love Rosamund. None of the others though, as they are mostly sad-meaning for one reason ir another.

DukeofEarlGrey · 07/07/2021 00:24

I strongly associate Perdita with The Winter’s tale but like others, immediately think of its meaning ‘lost one’ because it’s talked about in the play. However, Perdita herself is a fab, spirited character so I love the connection in that sense.

Rosamund is also lovely. Have you thought about Rosalind?

thatllberight · 07/07/2021 00:23

Blair- love it
Blythe- love it
Primrose- too frilly
Rosamund- ok
Pandora- ok
Perdita- ok
Petronella- terrible

M0rT · 07/07/2021 00:17

I would like to be called Blythe, but it wouldn't work where I live because it would be blide.

joystir59 · 07/07/2021 00:17

I hope I'm a boy and get called Robert because your girls name are awful

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 07/07/2021 00:13

don't like any of them apart from Rosamund.
I know one, she's mainly called Rosa

Pinchoftums · 06/07/2021 23:40

Robert is a fabulous name. I have an unusual name and like that but don't like any on your girl list. Rosalyn is a lovely name.

NotNowPlzz · 06/07/2021 23:34

Oh yes I love Blaise for a boy. Fantastic name. I'm however concerned it would constantly be spelled Blaze.

tralalalalalalalalala · 06/07/2021 22:36

What about Blaise for a boy? I know one (mid 40s now) and it really suits him.
Went to school with a Pandora. She was posh and a right slapper so that would put me off!!
