Paula / Pauline

What are your thoughts on Paula and Pauline?

I'm guessing most people won't feel they are ready for a comeback. I know such a cool and quirky 30 year old Paula though and it seems so refreshing

Not a fan sorry. I'd choose Paula out of the two.

Lemonsyellow · 17/08/2021 07:29

I rather like Paula. I know three, two of whom pronounce it the European way - powla. Pauline seems very dated to me. But a name like Polina seems rather glamorous.

Chunkymenrock · 17/08/2021 03:59

Nice names for people born in the 50s/60s/70s but forget it otherwise.

stripedbananas · 17/08/2021 03:51

Dowdy and old fashioned.

PaulaTrilloe · 17/08/2021 03:21

I prefer Paulina or Paloma Grin

Happymum12345 · 17/08/2021 00:33

I think it’s a 50’s / 60’s name more than 70’s.
I never thought names like Edith, Ethel, Mabel and Horris would be in fashion, but they are.
Paula is a nice name.

Buttercup54321 · 17/08/2021 00:14

Very dated. Always thought parents of Paula and Pauline really wanted a son called Paul so just changed it slightly when they had a girl lol

ThatIsUntilBertRaccoonWakesUp · 14/08/2021 22:42

I’m 36 and there was a Pauline in the year above me at school - it seemed very dated and old fashioned back then, among the Sarahs and Nicolas and Katies.

I’ve never known a Paula! It’s nicer than Pauline though. Reminds me of Pauline Fowler

WrongKindOfFace · 14/08/2021 22:37

Nope. Not yet ready for it. Give it 20 or so years.

JaninaDuszejko · 14/08/2021 22:25

I prefer Paula to Pauline but Paulina is better than either of them. I knew a horrible Pauline at school though so I may be biased!

PumpkinKlNG · 14/08/2021 22:22

Awful

BluebellsareBlue · 14/08/2021 22:21

I'm a Paula, born in 1975 😀 I used to hate my name but I only know three other Paula's and I kinda like it now

Saltyslug · 07/07/2021 04:27

Pollie with an e.

Saltyslug · 07/07/2021 04:24

Paola is nice

Paloma and Pearl are similar

SmackMyAssnCallMeJudy · 06/07/2021 02:05

DD, 11, has a Paula on one of her sports teams, but it’s pronounced like the bear - polar. This does not flow naturally from my tongue.

PattyPan · 06/07/2021 01:52

I have a teen relative called Paula, named after her dad. I think Paul, Paula and Pauline are all really ugly, sorry. Polly is nicer.

Maggiesfarm · 06/07/2021 01:43

I prefer Paula to Pauline.

Eleoura · 05/07/2021 23:39

Not a fan at all. I associate it with a girl telling me in a nasty way 'its Pauline, NOT Paula' when I got her name wrong at a party!

This was only 10yrs ago though. Both sound like you wanted a Paul, but they turned out to be female, so you tried to feminise it and went with Pauline/Paula.

ThePearlOfDumbarton · 05/07/2021 23:29

Really dowdy.

But if you spell it the Italian or Portuguese way Paola and pronounce it powla it suddenly seems so much prettier

DysonSphere · 05/07/2021 23:29

Pauletta?

Prefer Pauline to Paula, Paula sounds a bit harsh

ladymary86 · 05/07/2021 23:27

@Iamtheweedonkey

God no, one of those is my name, I've always hated it.
Ditto to this!!
ladygindiva · 05/07/2021 23:24

My first MIL was a Pauline, sadly passed away. She was an amazing, lovely woman. I like it.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/07/2021 23:22

Paula feels slightly less dated than Pauline imo (only because "a/ah" endings are generally much more popular than than "ine/een" endings at the moment).

But like pp's I much prefer the sound of Paulina/Polina (since it isn't used much in the UK compared to the rest of Europe, it doesn't feel dated to me).

Iamtheweedonkey · 05/07/2021 22:10

God no, one of those is my name, I've always hated it.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 05/07/2021 22:10

I’m not keen on Pauline. It’s in the same bracket as Lorraine/Brenda/Irene/Lynne/Kathleen.

I don’t mind Paula. Although I wouldn’t choose it personally.
