Struggling for boy names. Found one but the meaning is crap!

We don't know yet if having a boy or girl but we settled on a lovely girls name super quickly. So I suggested Cameron for a boy and DH quite likes it.
I then researched the meaning and it means "bent, crooked" lol
So now I feel that's a bit shit considering our first DS is Arthur and means bear, courageous and also the connotations with King Arthur etc.
Name meanings mean something to me.
I'm so torn because it's the only name we've both been quite happy with but then find out it means crooked and bent...hmmm

@35andthriving yeh, I like Felix bit DH doesn't :(
And yes I agree, it is a "me" thing to do to have researched the meanings so I think to see "crooked nose" and go along with it isn't typical of me!
@CharlieWorkCharlieSad I just spent some time doing that but didn't see anything jumping out at me!

I guess I need to wait until next week when I have my scan and then can worry about a boys name if having a boy.

*which names mean that!

Sorry sloppy writing!

aSofaNearYou · 05/07/2021 14:40

Alright, no need to be defensive. It's just such an extremely small part of a person's life, coming to question the meaning of a name everybody knows as "just a name", that I would not bat an eye of a mundane definition like bendy. It's just an "oo that's interesting" moment, not something with any actual significance.

CharlieWorkCharlieSad · 05/07/2021 14:39

Why don't you decide on the meaning before the name?

Say you want, Strong and Brave, you research what names mean that?

35andThriving · 05/07/2021 14:37

I can understand why you would be upset. I don't think it matters to a lot of people. I like names so it would be obvious to my child that I would have looked their name's meaning up. It would make it harder to give them a name with a negative meaning as I couldn't then deny knowing.

Felix and Isaac have nice meanings. Felix means happy / lucky. Isaac means he who laughs. Orson and Bernard both mean bear.

Hope you find something you love. Smile

Not keen on those @Happenchance but thank you for suggesting them.

@bloominglovelyorange oh I like the way you have described it! Positive bendy :)

Well @aSofaNearYou I have tried to explain why meanings are important and just because they don't mean anything to you, I've said they do to me! But I do like how blooming has turned it into a positive

I don't think it really matters what a name "means" when it's now just a perfectly conventional name.

bloominglovelyorange · 05/07/2021 14:30

Cameron is a lovely name and it's bendy meaning is connected to lucky (bendy) number 6 and also meandering (bendy) rivers. That's the "bent" part, it's a positive bendy! I'd use it for sure, great choice

Happenchance · 05/07/2021 14:28

Other suggestions:
Lorcan
Cillian
Damon
Conrad

Yeh I guess a fair amount of people would never know but like my dad was an English teacher and so for me and DH wedding my dad wrote a poem about our names and meanings. He wrote something for Arthur and I like reading onto name meanings and origins. It's just something that's always been a part of our family I suppose.
DH was a bit disappointed when I told him the meaning too although I suppose bent, crooked doesn't necessarily mean anything negative, does it? I could put a positive spin on it like nothing in life is straightforward!

Meaning don't bother me much, I never in a million years would have guessed that Arthur means bear. What about something like
Christian
Christopher
Caleb
Carson
Cody
Connor
Cole
Calvin
Cooper
Carter

If name meanings mean something to you then it's probably not the name for you. It personally wouldn't bother me, and my own name means bitter. It's never bothered me that it's not something more positive
