Cant decide!

Thea, definitely. I knew a Theodora born a couple of years ago. Her parents called her Teddy, which I'm not a fan of, but Dora is a lovely nn too.

Amelie is ok, it's quite sweet. I think it sounds much nicer with a French accent and loses something over here... it's a bit too 'girly' for me and will merge with the Amelias / Emelias.

I prefer Amelie because I don’t like the sound of Thea in certain accents when it is pronounced with more of an f sound. Also if she ever decides to move abroad or do a languages degree or something then lots of countries can’t pronounce th.

@TheSockMonster

Both nice names.

My reservation with Amelie is that it is a very ‘girly’ name which might not suit all women. I absolutely love it as a name, but it’s not an name I’d want for myself (not girly, work in male-dominated industry)

Well I know a recently transitioned transwoman called Amelie in a very male dominated STEM environment; IKWYM but it's not put her off choosing it 🙂

I prefer Thea or Theodora for greater potential for future nns. I have both names in very close family so like both.

Thea

JustineTimee · 30/06/2021 10:26

Both are lovely! I think Amelie is prettier, Thea is stronger sounding.

Amelie is my preference. I don't know any but know 3 girls with the similar Amelia.

Seesawmummadaw · 30/06/2021 10:21

I love Amelie but it’s so common now! Ds has 4 in his class alone.

CheddarGorge · 30/06/2021 10:21

I know a Thea and personally not a fan of that name at all

Amelie is pretty

GeorgieRose1234 · 30/06/2021 10:20

Love both! Think I slightly prefer Amelie because there’s a bigger choice of nns

Pressed post too soon! Dd due in August. Does anyone know any little ones with either of these names?
