The name Swan for a baby girl AIBU

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CormoranStrike · 28/06/2021 19:30

The woman in Fatherhood is Liz, same name as his dead wife, so they opt for Swan. It is NOT a human name.

Koala3d · 28/06/2021 19:28

Only if you want her to spend her whole life with people saying ‘she can break your arm, you know’ to her

Guavafish · 28/06/2021 19:27

Do it!

bravotango · 28/06/2021 19:25

Prefer Goose personally

FlosCampi · 28/06/2021 19:20

I agree with you @GreyhoundG1rl, Sam would also suit him, I was just trying to make a general observation. Sorry OP and also Wolfe's mum for derailing the Swannage.

dogistoobigforthesofa · 28/06/2021 19:20

The Irish for swan is Eala. That might work better (unless you live in Ireland of course!)

MumsMeaningfulMayhem · 28/06/2021 19:18

I love it 😍

Flamingosnbears · 28/06/2021 19:17

Swan is definitely out there and there would be alot of raised eyebrows...
Swanhilda is an old name that would give you Swan as a nickname.
You could also go for Odette a name from swan lake and use Swan as a nickname.

Babymamma192 · 28/06/2021 19:16

YABU

GreyhoundG1rl · 28/06/2021 19:16

Anyway he is an inquisitive and resilient toddler now and it really does suit him
I'm sure there are scores of inquisitive and resilient (!) toddlers called Sam. Or James.

ivfgottwins · 28/06/2021 19:15

There really ought to be an approved list for baby names like they have in other countries

MadinMarch · 28/06/2021 19:14

only if your surname is Lake

Or possibly 'Song'

Figgygal · 28/06/2021 19:14

Madness
Sorry op

FlosCampi · 28/06/2021 19:13

In answer to some posters, the baby Wolf I know is actually Wolfe, now that I think about it. His parents are academics, maybe it's after Wolfe Tone? Anyway he is an inquisitive and resilient toddler now and it really does suit him. Consider all the names we have which were originally vocabulary words in their original language: Rachel meaning a ewe; Alfred meaning Elf Counsel. I don't imagine those were descriptive as given names. I expect we don't all look at a clumsy Grace, an unfriendly Amy, and think her name jars with who she is; it has become distinct from the vocabulary word now.

It's just interesting that there are words still in use that we haven't yet, or somehow can't, disassociate from their meanings, like Navy, which was on these boards the other day.

Blossomtoes · 28/06/2021 19:13

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

only if your surname is Lake
🤣
MurdockTheMouse · 28/06/2021 19:12

Goose is better. There was a Goose in Top Gun…

maddiemookins16mum · 28/06/2021 19:12

FFS, don’t be so ridiculous.

Higgeldypiggeldy35 · 28/06/2021 19:11

No sorry Op it's awful. If you like bird names how about Robyn?

dogistoobigforthesofa · 28/06/2021 19:11

@ILoveShula It's both. See: www.babycentre.co.uk/babyname/1005371/ava

Icantrememberthenameoftheartis · 28/06/2021 19:10

I love it! But it looks like I’m the only person on here who does.

Tal45 · 28/06/2021 19:06

No Swan, no Wolf, no Bunny and no Seal (unless you're Seal and then it's really cool).

MilkEyedMender · 28/06/2021 19:06

The nickname "Swan" in Fatherhood was given to the lady (Lizzie) by his elementary school daughter. Not as a serious name Confused

Runningupthecurtains · 28/06/2021 19:05

I read a book about a grisly old PI named Swan. It's the only time I've seen it as a name.
@SirenSays was it not his surname? Swan is a surname and grizzly PI often go by their surnames.

lottiegarbanzo · 28/06/2021 19:03

Plus, as the only bird with an erectile penis, thus used as a symbolic male protagonist in mythical stories about rape (see Leda and Zeus)... it's clearly a boy name.

CupOfTPlease · 28/06/2021 19:01

'Stop looking at me Swannnnnn!'
