The name Swan for a baby girl AIBU

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PurBal · 28/06/2021 20:13

No. Her name is Liz, Swan is a nickname because the protagonists dead wife was also called Liz. To be honest I've heard worse names but its not for me.

GoldenSun1 · 28/06/2021 20:11

I actually like it Blush

dogistoobigforthesofa · 28/06/2021 20:10

@CandyLeBonBon You can hear it if you follow this link - kind of like Ay-la www.howtopronounce.com/eala

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/06/2021 20:09

It would be a perfect name for the first-born of triplets, as long as the siblings who follow are called Stu and Sanuther Grin

not one she could be bullied over for many years to come. Beaky, anyone!

With a slight twist, maybe.... loving the thought of six siblings called Dave, Dee, Daisy, Becky, Mick & Rich Grin

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2021 20:07

I see your Swan and I raise you a FRESIA (inspired by others on this thread!)

GettingItOutThere · 28/06/2021 20:06

oh god why!!

"hi, this is my lawyer, swan"
"swan the stripper" etc

noooo

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2021 20:05

@dogistoobigforthesofa

The Irish for swan is Eala. That might work better (unless you live in Ireland of course!)
I bloody love that! How is it pronounced?

I'm officially broody! 😂

quizqueen · 28/06/2021 20:05

Honestly, I swear parents get crazier by the minute. Just choose a sensible name which goes well with your surname or any surname you may have in the future, not one she could be bullied over for many years to come. Beaky, anyone!

Stop trying to be the trendy one; it just makes you the laughing stock at the school gate. If you love the name so much, change yours by deed poll and live with it yourself.

Frisia = islands off the coast of Netherlands and Northwest Germany, hence a popular name in that region. I have met many women and girls called Swantje or Svantje but wasn’t aware of the nickname.

20viona · 28/06/2021 19:56

No

allihaveleft · 28/06/2021 19:55

Swan is probably short for Swantje, a Frisian name. It does mean swan or swan’s daughter. Pronounced svant-yeh

CandyLeBonBon · 28/06/2021 19:54

@Seesawmummadaw - Katie, is that you??

GoWentGone · 28/06/2021 19:50

Actually I prefer it to Wren, which is often commended on here, and which I find sickeningly twee.

Leda?

inmyslippers · 28/06/2021 19:49

Middle name lake

thatllberight · 28/06/2021 19:47

You can't call your kid swan. Lots of nice nature names if that's your thing. Lots of plants, flowers and trees you could name your baby after. Or if it has to be a bird then Robyn/Robin, Wren, Jay, Dove, Lark, Paloma...

cittigirl · 28/06/2021 19:46

No

muddyford · 28/06/2021 19:45

Duck!

DeciduousPerennial · 28/06/2021 19:43

whatthejiggeries · 28/06/2021 19:42

I have no words

bananabanana67 · 28/06/2021 19:40

omg 😂

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 28/06/2021 19:38

I actually like it but would use it as a middle name. There are a few online people I’ve followed for years who have kids with names I love, like Grey, someones son has Fox as a middle name, also Pebble as a middle name.

lottiegarbanzo · 28/06/2021 19:38

She could end up being Swan Swann, Swan Swain or Swan Wan. Grin

SunshineCake · 28/06/2021 19:36

Don't be silly. You are naming a person not a fucking species.

Tailbetweenlegs · 28/06/2021 19:33

Change your name to Swan if you like it and call your daughter Sarah?

TheRebelle · 28/06/2021 19:30

Only if you’re Waynetta Slob.
