Pronounced Jon-kwil a name I’ve always liked and nature related bur is it too much?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/06/2021 13:14

Yep, boarding school stories and one is mentioned in a Gerald Durrell book. I'm not sure it would be top of my list, but it's nice enough.

Disfordarkchocolate · 27/06/2021 13:12

I'm not sure. I thinks it's one of those names that would get shortened by most people and you'd have a 50/50 chance of them not liking it as an adult.

Cbeebiesrehab · 27/06/2021 13:12

The ‘Jon’ part makes it sound masculine to me. I don’t like it-sorry.

Hallyup6 · 27/06/2021 13:09

40 years ago, my mum's friend was determined, all through pregnancy, that if she had a daughter she would be named Jonquil.

She ended up with a Jennifer.

user1493494961 · 27/06/2021 13:01

Jonquils were my Mum's favourite flower. Not keen on it as a girl's name (definitely not for a boy) but I've heard worse.

Velvetbee · 27/06/2021 13:00

I knew one years ago, she was absolutely lovely. Unusual but certainly not made up.

TwinsAndTrifle · 27/06/2021 13:00

Please don't name your child Jonquil.

It sounds like a herbal sleep aid.

Floralnomad · 27/06/2021 12:56

Absolutely awful .

SunSeaSurfGin · 27/06/2021 12:53

It's awful I'm afraid. Sounds like something you find in a medicine cabinet or cleaning cupboard

It also sounds made you

custardbear · 27/06/2021 12:51

It doesn't sound very feminine for a girl, but a bit too feminine for a boy ... I know that doesn't make sense but hey ho 😵‍💫

If you like nature names what about sorrel, Hebe, Linden, Tempest

NeedNewKnees · 27/06/2021 12:48

It’s a colour, isn’t it? Yellow.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/06/2021 12:46

baby Jonquil
and her siblings: Quinoa & Yogah Matt

SameToo · 27/06/2021 12:43

This thread has made me laugh 😂 Sorry op. Maybe as a middle name?

Viviennemary · 27/06/2021 12:42

Its dire.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 27/06/2021 12:41

It’s not an attractive sound for a name, boy or girl. Awful!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 27/06/2021 12:38

I don't love it, but it certainly isn't yoonique or in any way chavvy, and it is certainly a girl's name.

DinosaurDiana · 27/06/2021 12:37

If it’s for a boy I prefer Jonty.

ODFOx · 27/06/2021 12:37

I have never heard of it as a name. It's a beautiful sound and pleasant to say.
For some reason it makes me think of clowns, but I couldn't tell you what the association is.

ScribblyBaller · 27/06/2021 12:36

it's quite a clunky word

Stichintime · 27/06/2021 12:31

Only if they have siblings Sheneil and Danae.

Tiggerdig · 27/06/2021 12:30

I generally don’t like these kind of names but don’t mind this. I would assume it’s a boy though!

kimlo · 27/06/2021 12:30

I knew one, she must be in her 60's now.

IsadoraQuagmire · 27/06/2021 12:28

I used to know a Jonquil at school. I think it's pretty (she was horrible though!)

flameprincess · 27/06/2021 12:28

It sounds like a mouthwash

RoseMartha · 27/06/2021 12:23

No
