Why are boy names so difficult?

Kiki275 · 26/06/2021 15:31

Hi all,

please can you help pick out a few options for our baby due in August? We've trawled so many lists and still can't agree.

I'm averse to calling them any names of boys I went to school with, which happen to be the kind of names DH likes.
Also wish to avoid anything ending y or ie due to surname.

Girls names have been chosen for years.

Will be a sibling to Tristan Jack (nearly 3) and Jasper & Jake (born sleeping).

Any ideas would be much appreciated x

I like Guy, I've met two adult ones, one was lovely and the most recent colleague is a tad arrogant which puts me off.

I also really like Benedict, as long as it wasn't shortened to Ben (though not sure how I could prevent it).

Also like the Welsh spelling of Huw but not sure if it would be odd with having no discernible Welsh links x

Dominic’s been earmarked though.

Violetlavenders · 27/06/2021 10:34

I think Dominic, Quentin and Sebastian go really well with Tristan.

@October2020 I'd happily use August any other time if the year... have no wish to go that overdue though and feel it would be tempting fate x

My username is October and err, I could have called my baby August Blush but I still think it is a lovely name even if they turn up earlier or later than planned!

SunflowerOwl · 27/06/2021 08:23

We found completely the opposite! Had a boys name in the bag and struggled since finding out we are expecting a DD. Our boys name and backups were:

Woody
Ethan
Owen
Henry
Remy

Kiki275 · 27/06/2021 08:23

@October2020 If I do that, chances are he won't turn up until September 1st 😂

Call him August!

Kiki275 · 27/06/2021 08:19

Gabriel is a gorgeous name (think I've loved it since Far From the Madding Crowd) but DH not keen.

Dominic is one we both agree on however SIL has had it as her "boy name" for a decade so it depends how much of a war we want to start.

Maybe I need to get reading again as most of my preferences are all inspired by historical novels.x

So sorry for your losses.
I love Tristan. Shame Sebastian is taken as it goes perfectly.

I love names like Dominic, Michael and Gabriel. I think they go well with Tristan ( in fact, I had Tristan to go with my Dominic, but ended up with just the 1 child ).
I quite like Quinn.

Winwins · 27/06/2021 03:45

I’m so, so sorry for your losses x

Owen and Caleb seem to be the ones you’re most enthused about so far and both lovely.

Kiki275 · 26/06/2021 22:34

I love Kit but it's a word I'd use a lot if life... "have you got your PE kit Kit" "DH bought a new bit of kit for the tractor" "parent company bought a new kitting company"
.... aware I'm overthinking that one a tad 😂

Sebastian, Max, Lucas & Angus are all "taken" for want of a better word by close friends boys but are good names.

Caelen is an interesting one, not heard that much but it has a nice sound to it. Off to google 😊 x

Totally agree, we’ve had a girls name for years but also having a boy in August and I went round and round in circles reading these lists and nothing was jumping out to me. We’ve ended up settling on the name we thought years ago, which is actually very common where I stay (which puts me off) but we don’t know anyone called the name.

The name I absolutely loved but my partner didn’t was Reuben. Love that he could have the nickname Reu. Freddie was also a nearly but just felt like something was missing with it. Jasper would be my other one but you have a Jasper already, so sorry for your loss.

Ari? Kit? I did love Felix too but the same as you was put off by the cat food association. Rex was another one we thought about
