Morning lovelies!

What are your thoughts on Robyn (for a girl)

Do you know many?
What nicknames might organically evolve?

I like it. I only know one. She's 18 and AFAIK she's always called Robyn.

A couple of pp mentioned the traditional spelling but I thought that Robyn was the traditional spelling for girls and Robin was the traditional spelling for boys.

CupOfTPlease · 03/07/2021 06:27

Hate it.

There is a few Robyn's I know and not one of them are nice people.

RhubarbAndMustard · 03/07/2021 06:15

I love Robyn. It was on my girls list but I only had boys. There's one in my 9 year olds class. I think it's a current name.

MouldyPotato · 03/07/2021 06:03

Rob/Robbie

I like Roberta better, but do like Robyn

Kanaloa · 03/07/2021 01:04

I like it, prefer Robin though.

Heidi6824 · 03/07/2021 00:16

I am a Robyn. I love my name. The other option was Rachel and I'm so glad I didn't get that!

I am a 90's baby. Never got anything with my name on it (but there are so many variations of names now that not many will do anyway!).

I was Bob from my uncle (black adder reference) and my niece and nephews called be Bob. My nanny called me Rob which I hated but I generally just tell people I don't want to be called Rob and move on Grin

Bunstheway · 02/07/2021 23:37

I have a friend Robyn and everyone calls her Rob x

JellyBellySmith · 02/07/2021 22:19

I know one who is just a "Robyn" and another who is "Birdie". I actually love Birdie, but might just be the association and I didn't know she was a Robyn until recently - she's lovely.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/06/2021 22:23

@elvis4nuts - I think it's because there were a few (semi?) famous Robyn's born in the 70's/ early 80's, plus Robyn was at it's peak of popularity in the US in the 70's and that influence tends to drift to the UK.

But whilst I still prefer the Robin spelling, as far as I know Robin/Robyn has never been top 50 in any country (although it's now getting up there in the UK), so it can hardly be considered a dated name.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 26/06/2021 16:25

I know 3, one teen, one 20 something, one 30 something. None of them have their names shortened as far as I know. I think it's a lovely name, pretty and strong.
As it's with a 'y', can't imagine people buying them robin presents.

elvis4nuts · 26/06/2021 16:17

@BellsaRinging

Yes I like Bobby too!

I love it. I know a little girl whose family call her 'Bobby' which is also cute.

elvis4nuts · 26/06/2021 16:11

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

I wonder what it is about it that has this 70s vibe? I can't put my finger on it!

It doesn't put me off though!

Robyn is not my taste (has a somehow 70's vibe to me), but strangely I really like Robin for both sexes - more classic, gentle, nature feel. But either way, I can't imagine Robyn/Robin would automatically get any nicknames - the few I've met don't seem to.

daisypond · 26/06/2021 10:44

I don’t like it. It’s dated and not very classy, to me. Roberta with a nickname of Robin would be better.

RogersVideo · 26/06/2021 10:15

I had a friend named Robyn in the 90s, she was just Robyn, no nn. Likewise I know a Robin as an adult, and he is just Robin, no nn.

NautaOcts · 25/06/2021 13:09

Sweet
Like it

Breadandbutterpudding85 · 25/06/2021 13:09

It's getting increasingly popular if you look at the statistics and there's lots of names be going with a Ro... sound in the top 100 so it feels more popular than it even is.
It's nice enough but yes it could well get shortened to Rob as it's a natural shortening

UserAtRandom · 25/06/2021 13:04

I love Robyn for a girl (but don't like Robin for a boy; contrary). I really wanted DD to be Robyn but DH vetoed on the basis of not liking girls' names that sound like boys' names. Which I guess could be an issue, although these days it seems that names I thought were more commonly used for boys are often more likely to be girls' names (e.g. Sidney/Sydney)

India999 · 25/06/2021 12:59

Love it!! But personally prefer the traditional spelling (robin) regardless of gender.

thelegohooverer · 25/06/2021 10:32

I love it.

BritInAus · 25/06/2021 10:30

My Dsis is a Robin. She's never ever had Rob (and is nearly 40!) she gets mainly just Robin, Bobbie when she was a toddler from some family friends. Her only nickname relates to her maiden name.

ScribblyBaller · 25/06/2021 10:28

@MondayYogurt

Robyn the Swedish singer is v cool so I vote yes.
I love her!
SpacePug · 25/06/2021 09:48

I know a little girl Robyn-jane ( not actually Jane but just showing it's a double barrel name)
And a middle aged man Robin.
I do like it with a y for a little girl though

HeronLanyon · 25/06/2021 09:43

How about Roberta. Bobby.
The only Robin I know is male. Congrats op.
