Is Mark due a revival?

In the same way Eric has been popping up again? Not Marcus or Marco but just Mark/Marc. Anyone know any little ones?

It’s biblical so it’ll come round again. There aren’t many Johns currently. Lots of Matthews and Luke’s though.

No. Eric is coming back because it’s a generation away from Mark. Mark is what today’s small children’s dads are named, so it will start to come back in twenty years when they start to have children.

Funnily enough the current popular names thread made me think of Mark. There are so many forty-something men named Mark in my workplace that they are known by their initials or their surnames.

I have several very positive associations with Mark and it was on my long-list. I think it is relatively neutral sounding and hard to dislike. If I met a little boy called Mark, I don't think I would find it dated in the same way that some of the other "about my age" names like Gary or Darren would be dated now. FWIW, the youngest one I know is about 11.

Eric is popping up again imo because it's more a Grandad/Great-grandad name than middle aged, plus it benefits from international cred (the Scandi/Viking cool of Erik.)

I know a teenage Mark (dual heritage/bi -lingual family - apparently Mark works well internationally).

I think Mark's one of those classic names like Stephen and Philip that will always be used regularly but won't likely be really popular again for another 40/50 years (when all the middle aged Mark's have passed or become Great -grandfather's).

Mark is a bit of a funny one - it's Biblical, but never seems to fall into that slot in my brain in the same way as Matthew/Luke/John/Gabriel does. It goes down the 80s schoolfriends slot (Simon/Michael/Stephen/Richard/Chris).

Ditto Simon, Michael, Jonathan, David, come to think of it.

I've got a son in his 40s, there were 4 Marks in his class at primary school. I think it was so overdone in the 70s and 80s that it will take a while but who knows. I think it is really hard to guess with names.

I do like Michael though.

I've never understood why there are so many Marks, I just know about fifteen in the 30-50 age group. Do people really find it such a lovely name?! Confused

I think a lot of the Marks are just becoming parents themselves and are calling their sons after their grandad Arthur.

My friends got a Mark named after her late father. I don't personally like it but I do think it's better than a lot of names out there x
