Hello,

I'm a believer in nicknames coming quite organically but I'd love to hear from anyone with a Lyra or who knows a Lyra what nicknames they use? Nothing is springing to mind.

Disclaimer- I'm not actually pregnant. I'm 2.5 years in to secondary infertility and recurrant miscarriage but a girl can dream.

But her organically arising nickname will probably be Tiddles or Sausage or Marvin - completely unrelated!

BigfatJ · 22/06/2021 10:05

It doesn’t need a nickname, it’s 2 syllables and 4 letters

Ly-ly

I don't think a nickname would come from Lyra, with it being a short name (and a lovely one).

Kids nicknames for each other usually come from their surnames or their personality traits. Nicknames from their parents can sometimes come from what they called them in the womb... my friend's DD is still "squidge" at 17!

You never know what will inspire a nickname and will stick!

I don't think a two-syllable name needs a nickname, but FWIW, I call my daughter Anna "Piglet" or "Piggy". Because she started insisting she was a pig a couple of years ago. My son, we used to call Goose (no idea why) but he asked us to stop, so we did. Nicknames really can't be planned for in my experience!

Lyre is a beautiful name btw

I know one little Lyra and she doesn't have a nn. I think it's one of those names which doesn't really need one. It's such a lovely name, I think a nn would spoil it. My top choice is currently Imogen - loads of nn options but none I like, prefer the full version.

Sorry to hear about your fertility struggles. It took 2.5 years to conceive my first, so I have some understanding of how rubbish it is. Best of luck x

I know a Lyra, and she's not really called a nickname, apart from by my DD, but those names aren't really related to her name.

chillied · 21/06/2021 22:14

just probably isn't really a nickname name...

sorry for your struggles though.
