Hi everyone!

We are torn on names and like both Owen and Westin for our baby boy. His last name will be Reed. Would like some opinions on which of the two names you guys prefer. Also open to any other names you guys think may sound good!

Thanks so much!

*out load = out loud

Happenchance · 21/06/2021 23:25

I prefer Owen to Westin/Weston but I'm not a fan of either.

I just tried to say Westin Reed out load and said Restin Weed instead Confused. It's a bit of a tongue twister.

How about Ioan or Wilson?

Violetlavenders · 20/06/2021 22:03

How about Winston?

Owen is great and is the anglicised version of Owain.

Weston Reed sounds like an Estate Agent’s.
Westin is awful, don’t do it!

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/06/2021 20:36

Owen is lovely and I think in a similar category to Evan and Dylan as Welsh names which don’t need significant Welsh heritage.

Westin is a chain of hotels.
Weston is a faded seaside resort with a muddy beach and a lot of Brummies.

MrsMoastyToasty · 20/06/2021 16:40

Owen = yes.
Weton = no. Reminds me of Weston Super Mare.

Crankley · 20/06/2021 16:17

Westin/Weston are awful, go with Owen

Ellmau · 20/06/2021 16:04

Owen is fine.

Weston/Westin Reed sounds like a firm of accountants.

Labradooodle · 20/06/2021 15:25

Owen.
I agree that Westin sounds like a budget hotel, is it?

Wrennie24 · 20/06/2021 15:20

Owen is fab. Westin is not great.

user1493494961 · 20/06/2021 13:53

Owen by far. Westin Reed sounds like a firm of Accountants.

DramaAlpaca · 20/06/2021 13:20

Owen

Apologies if someone has said it already but Westin/Weston sounds like a hotel chain.

35andThriving · 20/06/2021 13:14

Owen

CaffiSaliMali · 20/06/2021 11:12

I know several non-Welsh Owens. It's on my list as a 'safe' Welsh name but low down as it's used so commonly outside of Wales that it no longer feels like it would register as Welsh. It's not in the same level of Welshness as Llŷr, Euryn or Siôr for example.

Owen is much nicer than Westin or Weston. It also goes with your surname.

Spied · 20/06/2021 10:12

Owen is a million times better than your alternative.

RaininSummer · 20/06/2021 10:06

Definitely Owen.

converseandjeans · 20/06/2021 10:00

Owen. Westin Reed sounds strange to me.

Dualipasuction · 20/06/2021 09:55

Owen by far. West In Reed sounds like a rather poor novel.

Wolfiefan · 20/06/2021 09:51

Owen. Definitely not Westin.

Posieandpip · 20/06/2021 09:48

Also, I know several Owens, none of whom are Welsh Confused

MrsFin · 20/06/2021 09:47

Owen. Westin is not a name, spell check doesn't like it, apparently it's a hotel, and it's just awful anyway.

Posieandpip · 20/06/2021 09:46

Westin!? Definitely not Westin. Did you make it up? Owen is nicer for sure.

shreddednips · 20/06/2021 08:50

Owen definitely, it's lovely!

BikeRunSki · 20/06/2021 08:32

Owen, of that spelling, is well established as a name outside Wales.

Owain would be “too Welsh” for a non Welsh family.

DoingItMyself · 20/06/2021 07:55

Owen is a common name, not just Welsh. It's a good name.

Westin, no. No.
