So far we have:

Erin
Jasmine
Hazel
Imogen
Daphne
Zoe
Phoebe
Serena
Iris
Rhiannon
Coral

It's a bit of a random list at the moment. Feel a bit overwhelmed really! Would love to know your thoughts on these names and how popular they are in your area. Thanks!

We have similar tastes.

I picked Imogen as I love the name and don't know anyone else with the name. Other names I like had already been taken by close friends or family. I think it's beautiful, Shakespearean and classy

Others I like are iris. Hazel (Quite rare) Phoebe is classic, I did like serena when pregnant but not any more. I also had coral on my list but prefer Imogen

I think jasmine could be a bit common although I know why you like it. I only know adults called Zoe and have heard of a few baby Erin's now

@dorothycox

Hello, there.

Perhaps you should stick with something traditional and not so modernised and tacky unless you want a lifetime of regret. They all quite frankly sound quite horrible to me. Why don’t you give your child a blessing, something obeying to gods word and testament? Catherine, Teresa, Mary, Anne, Lydia and Theodora are all class and meaningful. They’re long lasting and never go out of style. Think about it.

God bless,
Dorothy.

Hi there Dorothy. I do appreciate everyone's comments, even the negative ones, however I really don't think that a number of these names could be described as 'modernised'. Imogen, Daphne, Phoebe and Rhiannon in particular are all very old names. I'm not religious and so have no interest in choosing 'something obeying to God's word and testament ' - although Phoebe is actually biblical also. I think people's ideas of what is 'tacky' or 'meaningful' is pretty subjective really. Thank you for your name suggestions - they're fine, but not to my taste. I think I'll be picking from from my list and will therefore have to resign myself to 'a lifetime of regret' Grin

ILoveShula · 20/06/2021 15:14

There a bookmakers called Eden around here too. Not that I'm suggesting the name.

Coral is harsh-sounding IMO. Carol is nicer but a bit dated. How about Caroline?

I knew what you meant, SirVix, but others might not.

Hippohappiness · 20/06/2021 15:03

Thanks for your comments so far, very helpful Smile

Also, I'd totally forgotten about Coral the bookies - might cross that one off the list!

SirVixofVixHall · 20/06/2021 15:02

Yes, that’s what I meant. They won’t pronounce it properly.

ILoveShula · 20/06/2021 15:00

@SirVixofVixHall, that's not quite true. They will think they know how to pronounce it and say it as Ree-Annun. Yuk.

Rhiannon is lovely. Ree-Annun isn't.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/06/2021 14:48

Unless you are Welsh and live in Wales not Rhiannon, as nobody will be able to pronounce it.
I like Serena, Coral, Iris, Jasmine ..all of them actually apart from Erin which I am not keen on .

ILoveShula · 20/06/2021 14:45

Erin - don't like it, harsh sounding
Jasmine - nice
Hazel - ok
Imogen - nice but I don't like Immy
Daphne - ok
Zoe - like
Phoebe -nice, don't like Feebs
Serena -ok, I know a Serina and Sarina, which I don't like
Iris - not keen
Rhiannon - lovely said by a Welsh speaker, not very nice otherwise
Coral - like the bookies. No.

SkankingMopoke · 19/06/2021 22:21

Erin - Like it. Don't know any.

Jasmine - Not keen. Know one who's late teens.

Hazel - Love it. May be a bit biased as I have one and it's a family name. I've met a couple of others of late primary age. Mine is early primary.

Imogen - Not keen.

Daphne - Dislike.

Zoe - It's fine. To me, Zoe is in her 40s now.

Phoebe - Not keen, associate with Friends (not a positive). I know 4yo and 9yo Phoebes.

Serena - Like it! Don't know any.

Iris - It's OK. Again, to me Iris is in her 40s.

Rhiannon - Really dislike it. I know 2: 4yo and 8yo.

Coral - Not keen.

weebarra · 19/06/2021 22:17

Erin - I know a couple but I'm in Scotland and it's an Irish name
Jasmine Aladdin?
Hazel nope
Imogen - only know one, in Australian
Daphne - neighbours
Zoe's- lovely
Phoebe - DD's bff
Serena - nice
Iris - nice
Rhiannon - fleetwood mac
Coral - nope

Clickbait · 19/06/2021 22:13

I wouldn't say any of these are super popular. My favourites are Iris and Zoe.

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 19/06/2021 22:11

Erin - really like, dont know any
Jasmine - not keen. Dont know any young ones but I'm in my late 20s and went to school with 3
Hazel - like, know a couple in their 20s but no little ones
Imogen - nice, know a few between about 10 and 30
Daphne - not my style, only know of 1 older lady called daphne
Zoe - not keen, dont know any young ones but went to school with a few
Phoebe - lovely, know of 5 or 6 under the age of about 4
Serena - nice, know of one who is about 18
Iris - nice, dont know any
Rhiannon - dislike, know of one who's about 25
Coral - ok, dont know any

user1493494961 · 19/06/2021 22:04

I like Imogen, Phoebe and Rhiannon. Dislike Daphne and Coral.

TenBobNote · 19/06/2021 19:24

Erin is lovely and not popular where I live.

Rhiannon is popular here with all ages, but timeless. I love the name Rhiannon (Not only because it’s my GDs name). It’s probably not popular outside of Wales.

pilates · 19/06/2021 19:21

Imogen is my favourite
Jasmine ok not keen on the rest

duckoutofwater · 19/06/2021 19:19

Biased as we have a DD Iris who's 5 MTHS, she's the only one I know, apart from one I knew at school who must be about 30 now.

Also love Hazel and Erin, they were on our shortlist, don't know any of either.

SnottyLottie · 19/06/2021 19:11

Erin - strong and no nonsense (7)
Jasmine - a close friend named her daughter this, I don’t mind it but it feels a little dated (I know a lot of Jasmines born in the 90s) (6)
Hazel - really fresh and wholesome, I know one Hazel in her 30s and she is lovely (8)
Imogen - so elegant (8)
Daphne - really sweet but maybe doesn’t age well? Also a little similar to Daffy (as in Duck) (7)
Zoe - classic but a little meh (6)
Phoebe - I love this name but it is crazy popular right now so it depends if you mind it being a common name (7)
Serena - beautiful, elegant and has strong bad ass connotations (8)
Iris - it’s one of those funny old lady names that seem to be coming back into style. It seems really cute on a baby or an 80 year old but cannot envision it on a teenager/young adult (6.5)
Rhiannon - not my style but admire it is very strong (6)
Coral - i see it as a more of a fish’s name (3)

Cotswoldmama · 19/06/2021 19:06

I like Erin, Hazel and Iris

Posieandpip · 19/06/2021 18:56

Imogen, Iris or Hazel 💜

KobaniDaughters · 19/06/2021 16:26

Phoebe, Imogen and Iris are my favourites

DotDotDotDotDot · 19/06/2021 16:22

Favourites are Iris, Hazel and Phoebe - all gorgeous. Dislike Rhiannon - seems a bit dated to me. Also not keen on Coral - bookies at the end of my road. None strike me as being massively popular. Good luck.

CheeseIsATypeOfMeat · 19/06/2021 14:42

Imogen and Phoebe are extremely common where we are. I know a lot. But they still great names.

Jasmine is lovely. And I really like Erin.

Rhiannon and coral are a no from me.

Daphne is OK but a bit clumsy on the tounge I think.

Oh and Hazel and Iris are great too.

SionnachRua · 19/06/2021 14:42

Erin - leave to the Americans pretending to be Irish
Jasmine - pretty
Hazel - nice
Imogen - whiny sounding imo
Daphne - too 'fluffy' and weak for me
Zoe - ok.
Phoebe - nicer written down than it is said aloud.
Serena - gorgeous
Iris - makes me think of eyeballs
Rhiannon - lovely
Coral - lovely

Personally I'd narrow it down to Rhiannon, Coral, Serena, Jasmine and Hazel.
