Boring vs trendy name?

I'm naturally drawn to both classic names that are often tarred as being 'boring', but also more trendy names like the old lady names (Edie, Ivy, Ada etc) that I worry will date a lot.

Current classic/'boring' favourite is Alice, current 'trendy' favourite is Edith nn Edie. Any thoughts on which subset of names is better, or which is better between Alice and Edith?

Love Phoebe, Imogen and Beatrix (not such a fan of Beatrice), but Eloise and Lucy sound a bit wet to me

I think Alice is a lovely, classic name. I don't see it as boring, in the same way as I do with Charlotte, Emily, Grace, Sarah, Jane, Hannah etc. I'm not a fan of Edith. It sounds very old lady to me, whereas Ivy and Ada sound a bit fresher, though I agree they're quite trendy at the moment. Other names I view as classic, without being boring -

Phoebe
Imogen
Lucy
Violet / Viola
Beatrice / Beatrix
Josephine
Eloise

Oh definitely Alice, it’s a lovely name. Edith is a tiny frail old lady with grey hair Grin

If I had another DD, I would name her Alice.

ILoveShula · 18/06/2021 20:58

I'm not keen on Ivy, Ada or Edie/Edith. They have become popular all of a sudden and will probably date badly.

Edie will get shortened to Ede which isn't very nice.

Alice Smile

ILoveShula · 18/06/2021 20:57

I'd go with Alice, because it is more likely to remain popular.

Spied · 18/06/2021 20:18

Alice is lovely, one of my favorites.

DinosaurDiana · 18/06/2021 20:18

Of those two, Alice. Edith still sounds like an old lady.

slippersandprosecco · 18/06/2021 20:17

I just feel like Edith and other similar names had quite a hiatus, and then a huge surge in popularity in recent years (and therefore have a higher likelihood of dating), whereas Alice etc have persisted more hence why some people view it as boring. Could be wrong though!

Alice is boring. I know about 10 all aged 25 ish. It's done to death sorry

Clickbait · 18/06/2021 20:14

Both lovely names. I'd choose Alice personally, I don't think it's boring.

Violetlavenders · 18/06/2021 20:13

Alice and Edith are equally old classics

inappropriateraspberry · 18/06/2021 20:07

I'd say both of those names are classic/traditional.
