Tyga - thoughts? How do you imagine the parents to be?

My best friend wants to call her baby boy Tyga (after an American rapper apparantly). Never heard of him but I just hate the name...
Tbh I think it sounds really chavy.
I'm really surprised as my friend herself isn't chavy lol, she's from a very middle class background and has a professional career.
She asked me for my honest opinion of it so I just told her I really don't like it. I'm more into traditional "solid" names like James, Daniel, Stephen etc. Tyga just sounds "made up" and well, tbh, rubbish.
What do others think of this name?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TuvoknotSpock · 17/06/2021 22:55

How about Michael or Ray (tyga's real first/middle names)? 🤣🤣

But no I wouldn't name my child after an adult man who groomed a teenager.

Hallyup6 · 17/06/2021 21:40

Chavvy and illiterate.

Hufflepuffsunite · 17/06/2021 21:37

I wouldn't use it, but then I would never use Stephen or Daniel either. None of them are my cup of tea!

MakkaPakkas · 17/06/2021 21:36

Islington parents was my first thought

inmyslippers · 17/06/2021 21:26

This cannot be for real

QueSeraSarah · 17/06/2021 21:26

Silly

BunnyRuddington · 17/06/2021 21:25

*Hmm. So it's not your choice of name, but your friends? And you're on here canvassing for an opinion? Having been derogatory about it?

Not on*

Exactly my thoughts. Not a nice thing to do at all.

roobicoobi · 17/06/2021 21:23

Paula Yates called her DD Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily

The dude from outnumbered is Lindzi James Tyger

Neither of them have a feline first name. They may use the name, but it's a middle name for both.

Ohpulltheotherone · 17/06/2021 21:22

@SleepingStandingUp

Well it's one of those. Would I? No. W/C Mom calling Tyga in Lidl? People will think it's chavvy and made up. M/C Mom calling Tyga in Waitrose? Much more likely to get away with it being interesting. U/C Mom calling Tyga across the stables? Quirky and fun!
Exactly this.

There are tons of Henry’s and Olivia’s running wild in the aisles of Lidi these days. No one assumes they are middle class do they.

A name changes within different environments.

I’d encourage her to at least spell it Tiger just to step away from the direct connection to someone in popular culture who may or may not end up being a good association

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/06/2021 21:22

I have a friend whose 7 year old ds is called Tiger. It really suits him and it's a great name. I'm.not so keen on the alternative spelling but each to their own.

Honestly, though, there's a lot of Katie Hopkins style judging on this thread.

Ohpulltheotherone · 17/06/2021 21:17

I actually liked Tiger for a boy back in the day. The rapper Tyga wasn’t a thing then.

I mean either way it doesn’t really matter if you like it or not.

Is “chav” still a thing? Aren’t we past that?

Paula Yates called her girl Tiger-Lily 20 years ago.

Tangled22 · 17/06/2021 21:16

Tyga is best known fo dating Kylie Jenner when she was between 14-17, and he was in his 20s. Does your friend know about the Kardashian / pervy link? I would mention it to her, to try and gently persuade her to pick a different name.

3beesinmybonnet · 17/06/2021 21:09

My first thought was Tyger Drew Honey from Outnumbered, whose parents are famous porn stars Ben Dover and Linzi Drew, as previous posters have already mentioned.

What if he grows up to be a bank manager or an accountant?

OverByYer · 17/06/2021 21:03

I’d think you don’t know how to spell Tiger

HumunaHey · 17/06/2021 21:02

I always assumed that wasn't his real name, just his rapper name, like Eminem, 50 cent, etc. So a bit weird in that sense.

PlanetTeaTime · 17/06/2021 21:02

@NotNowPlzz

Call him Alexander Tyga or Samuel Tyga or something and just call him Tyga. Tyga as a first name is just too much and I'm pretty out there.
This is a good idea
Ninkanink · 17/06/2021 21:01

Uh,

It would not leave me with a good impression. At all.

koalaroobear · 17/06/2021 21:00

I immediately thought chavvy parents

Or future pimp

NotNowPlzz · 17/06/2021 20:59

PlanetTeaTime · 17/06/2021 20:53

I like it to be honest

Longdistance · 17/06/2021 20:53

It’s crappe.

SionnachRua · 17/06/2021 20:53

@BabyFartsDoStink

Naming after a distinct famous person is fraught. What if he becomes a criminal? Imagine naming your kid Savile..
I mean Tyga is known for messaging underage girls so they're on the right (wrong) road already there!

OP, tell your friend to have a bit of class.

DoubleTweenQueen · 17/06/2021 20:52

Jake from ‘Outnumbered' was played by Tyger Drew-Honey. It suits him.

I wouldn’t judge the parents by the name as much as I would judge the parents for naming their child after an American rapper :/

Wowzel · 17/06/2021 20:52

It's pretty awful.

Tobermorie · 17/06/2021 20:50

Chavvy and I would avoid the family tbh.
