I do think it's a lovely name. There is really nothing wrong about this name, just not everyone's cup of tea. Just go for it 🙂

percheron67 · 25/06/2021 20:17

Gorgeous.

@Roselilly36

A few years ago whilst shopping in Aldi, I heard a mum call her son Rupert, the sniggering that went on was awful. I felt sorry for the mum & the child. I think it’s just one of those names.
Disgusting behaviour. What a load of bullies.
PurpleyBlue · 23/06/2021 13:15

It's nice, like Hugo in my mind. Nn. Ru

toastofthetown · 23/06/2021 12:56

Mumsnet are weird about some names and Rupert is one of them. People are responding like Rupert would ruin you child’s life, when Rupert is absolutely skyrocketing in popularity and will almost certainly be in the top hundred next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up in the top 50 in a couple more years. I really don’t think the reaction here is representative of what most people think. With the name becoming so popular the people who do think like this will eventually get over it.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/06/2021 12:02

My DD has just named her new kitten Rupert. I am not sure I would saddle a child with the name.

earthyfire · 23/06/2021 12:01

No, think of him as a teen

GammyLeg · 23/06/2021 02:06

@tiff00 going by half the vicious baby name threads I can well believe the Aldi had a few MNers there laughing at a child without a Top 100 name...

AnnaSW1 · 23/06/2021 00:41

I think it's dreadful

Lalliella · 23/06/2021 00:26

No. It’s a Nigel name but posher and wetter.

tiff00 · 22/06/2021 22:31

@GammyLeg yeah put me off Aldi more than anything... not sure how much I can believe that a whole aisle of shoppers turned to guffaw at a child's name... the fuck? Aldi @ wormwood scrubs? 🤣

I like it. People telling you it’s not masculine enough are not very progressive, are they?

MegaCityOne · 22/06/2021 20:22

I know a Rupert. Ru, as he is know. Is very middle class, has horses etc. When I first heard it I was a bit Confused but now it just blends in and suits him.

People can be just vile.
Thenosleepclub · 22/06/2021 19:47

Yes! I have one though so biased.
Although I would say if you want a more unusual name (which I did) bear in mind if you shorten it to Ru, there end up being lots of Ru's, due to Rufus' and Reubens. Mine goes by Bear sometimes.

stellarfox · 22/06/2021 19:46

I’m not a fan. I love Rufus though!

Arrierttyclock · 22/06/2021 19:45

I do like it but it's got super popular if fhat bothers you

TheMarzipanDildo · 22/06/2021 16:30

I quite like it. I generally like ‘un-masculine’, wet boys names though!

Rhythmisadancer · 22/06/2021 16:30

are you incredibly posh?
Or maybe a bear?

TheSpanishApartment · 22/06/2021 16:26

No. And I have a lovely friend called Rupert. But, no.

sorryforswearing · 22/06/2021 16:23

It’s a no from me. Can’t help linking it to posh chinless wonders. Sorry.

Grognonne · 22/06/2021 16:10

I love it, it was on my shortlist. Think it’s definitely gaining popularity too as 2/10 babies in my baby class are called it!

TuvoknotSpock · 17/06/2021 22:44

Hell yes!
Rupes for short

inappropriateraspberry · 17/06/2021 22:40

Not Rufus. He'll be Rufus Dufus, I guarantee.
