If you had to change your name (not to anything silly like Profiterolina) what first name would you go for?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Anything other than my name, tbh. I hate it.
It's always on lists of "beautiful" girls names but I rarely hear of anyone being called it IRL.

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/06/2021 10:11

I've always seen myself being a Phoebe Anouk

haveaday · 17/06/2021 09:35

Maria Rodriguez Espinoza .... not that I've thought about .... much

SongsForSwingingLovers · 17/06/2021 09:34

My husband had a colleague who reinvented himself as an adult - went from something like John Cooper to something like Oscar Fontainebleau.

PrimulaPrimrose · 17/06/2021 09:31

I grew up knowing two people who had "reinvented" their names in (young) adulthood.
If my name caused me true angst I'd do the same.
Also my parents told me to change my name if I didn't like it when I took to moaning about it as a teen😂, so all in all it doesn't seem so outlandish to choose to alter a given name.

FindingMeno · 17/06/2021 06:32

I'd like one of those names like Bunny or Kitty.

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 17/06/2021 06:16

@newtb what is your name?????

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 17/06/2021 06:15

Flora
Lauren
Ophelia
Claudia
Delphine
Sylvie
Lois

newtb · 17/06/2021 06:11

I'd have liked Charlotte. It was my grandmother's middle name.

My name's bloody awful. I'm the only British passport holder with it, the only person in France with it. Every bugger that writes to me gives it an acute accent where there isn't one - after 65 years of going cold when someone asks me my name, I really really do know how to spell it.

I have a middle name that's a version of Helen. Totally outing myself, it's Lenore..... NOT Lenor, so that wouldn't have been an alternative.

It's weird, I never see my name in print, never see souvenirs with my name on etc etc. I do look occasionally just for fun, but never seen it.

Winwins · 17/06/2021 05:15

Penny or Lydia. I don’t like my name and have zero connection to it or my middle name. Looking back, I wish I’d either changed my name or picked a name I liked and used it as a nickname. When I was younger, I never really considered that those were things you could do, and I feel like it would be too weird now I’m married with kids.

campion · 17/06/2021 00:09

I often say Annabel when they ask in Starbucks. It's nothing like my name but I rather like it when they shout it out!

Vikingintraining · 17/06/2021 00:07

I've always wished I was called Lara, ever since I watched the film Dr Zhivago when I was quite young. I thought Lara was an unusual and exotic name and I planned to name any future DDs it. I never had a DD and now the name is fairly common anyway.

IdblowJonSnow · 17/06/2021 00:07

I like Rebecca a lot.

ILoveAnOwl · 17/06/2021 00:05

I'm with @crockof The blandest of bland names for me please. Sarah Smith maybe? But maybe the illiteration makes it too exciting?

BluebellsGreenbells · 17/06/2021 00:00

I’d like to be Connie or Jenna

SongsForSwingingLovers · 16/06/2021 23:55

I’ve got an unusual name and in this age of the Internet I would prefer something more anonymous. When I was a child, I wished I’d been named Jane (but now I too am toying with a name change to Profiterolina).

Anystarinthesky · 16/06/2021 23:46

Beth, or Fiona, which is what my DM wanted to call me, but I was given my Gran's name which is old fashioned. (Not in a good way).

MrsBertBibby · 16/06/2021 23:44

Nina. I love that name, and it sounds much better with my surname than my real name.

Ginevere · 16/06/2021 23:34

I actually love the long version of my name, but I’ve always been called a short version and the long just doesn’t sound like me, even though it’s on my birth certificate! Tried to make it work a few times but sadly no.

Signifyingnothing · 16/06/2021 22:57

Io

Chienloup · 16/06/2021 22:52

Teleri

Kanitawa · 16/06/2021 22:52

Joanna. It has always been one of the biggest regrets of my life that I don’t have a gender neutral name like Joe.

MyMabel · 16/06/2021 22:52

I just like my own name, it’s classic.

It’s not Mabel, that’s my daughter.

Bootskates · 16/06/2021 22:50

Kate, Georgia, Pippa or Hattie

AwkwardPaws27 · 16/06/2021 22:49

Something very normal as everyone says "that's an unusual name" on hearing mine - so I've abbreviated it for years.

My middle name is Daisy, which I think is lovely but DH thinks is a ridiculous name Hmm

I'm just grateful I was my mum's first and only girl - my brother would have been called "Izzora Heavenly" if he was a girl! He got off lightly, with a nice easy to spell and pronounce name instead.
