Caspar or Casper?

Thinking of Caspar/Casper as a name for our baby if it's a boy. How would you spell it (and also do you like it!? I do think if friendly ghost a bit but don't think a baby born in 2021 would be troubled by that!)

Agree Caspar. Less likely to get Perry as a nn!

stellarfox · 18/06/2021 03:51

Love Caspian also!

stellarfox · 18/06/2021 03:50

I really like it! I think I prefer it with an a but I would check the ONS stats and if the spelling with an e is a lot more popular then I might go with that

Chilldonaldchill · 18/06/2021 00:01

Caspar. I'd have thought that was the more frequent spelling as i assume it's the original.

lotstolose1 · 17/06/2021 23:19

-er. But don't like it, sorry Blush

TuvoknotSpock · 17/06/2021 22:49

I think caspar is the spelling of the wise man no? However my autocorrect thinks it's Casper

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 17/06/2021 21:54

@Leytonladee I've got an English degree from Oxford - my spelling is pretty good. In my opinion it's not spelt incorrectly. Just like Rebekah and Rebecca are acceptable variations on the same name. You keep on judging though, if it makes you happy.

Leytonladee · 17/06/2021 17:05

Caspar is lovely. Casper a lot less lovely. I would judge the parents of a Casper as it's spelt incorrectly.

HappyDaysToCome · 17/06/2021 16:23

It was my favourite boys name I didn’t get to use.

I didn’t use it because I thought it was a bit too unusual, I was picked on at school for less. But now knowing the huge variety of names on a school register I’d have just gone with it as my favourite.

I’d have probably gone for Caspar, although I might have decided on er for ease.

Cressie2 · 17/06/2021 16:12

Caspar

WhoDidAndWhy · 16/06/2021 03:11

Casper. And I don’t like it, sorry.

PrimeraVez · 16/06/2021 03:10

Tired?! I mean thread!

PrimeraVez · 16/06/2021 03:09

Great choice!
We have a Caspar and I think I started a similar tired on the spelling when I was pregnant with him 2 years ago!
(I have to admit, a lot of people spell his name with an ‘e’ but it’s easy enough to correct them)

Ellmau · 15/06/2021 18:26

Excellent choice, OP.

ILoveShula · 15/06/2021 13:32

Caspar

Thehouseofmarvels · 15/06/2021 12:23

My partner is Kasper, Casper/Caspar was my favourite name for a son even before I met him !

TooTiredForToday · 15/06/2021 10:12

Oh lovely! Star

Cbd333 · 15/06/2021 10:11

Thanks so much all, husband is now on board with Caspar so we have a decision! Bet it will be a girl now 😂

I really want Melchior on our list but not sure I can convince DH...

RosesAndHellebores · 14/06/2021 21:41

Prince Caspian was a C S Lewis character I think. Also the Caspian Sea. What about Crispin. It works unless your surname is Bacon.

LadyGAgain · 14/06/2021 21:40

Caspar for the same reason. If we had a DS this was one of 2 of the shortlist.

Pengwyn · 14/06/2021 21:39

I quite like Caspian

Knew a boy called Caspian once

RosesAndHellebores · 14/06/2021 21:37

Caspar. It is ds's 3rd name because he was born on Christmas day. I refused dh's suggestion of Ebenezer Grin. Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar were the three wise men. Caspar bore the gold.

Ellmau · 14/06/2021 21:33

I think Caspar is classier.

TooTiredForToday · 14/06/2021 09:47

I love this name but DH is of the 'friendly ghost' variety Hmm

I think I prefer the Caspar spelling as it's more classic.

I also like the Kaspar spelling and also see Kacpar which I think might be Polish?
