Lilibet

I have always liked the name Lilibet (which is by the way a name quite popular in Central and South America) and we have been thinking to name our daughter Lilibet for quite a while. We were thrilled for this name to be chosen for the new Royal baby and I am sure it will become quite popular in the next few years. It is such a sweet name that combines vintage and witty in my view. Absolutely adorable.
What do you think? :-)

I like it. My friend is Lillibet but always known as Libby, which is nice. I like all the diminutives, lily, Betty etc.

hannahfaith · 15/06/2021 16:28

I had Lilibet and Lilibeth on my list before the royal baby.
I think they're lovely names and Lily is a sweet nickname.
I can see it rising which admittedly makes me slightly upset as I hate popular names.

daisypond · 11/06/2021 11:21

Just no. There are a million forms and shortenings of Elizabeth. All of them are more useable.
Lisbeth?
Elspeth?

Or a tampon crossed with a bookies.

Oh my word! I'm not going to be able to unthink this every time that name gets mentioned now! 🙈
Bloody awful.

Lily is limp enough on its own, Lilibet takes it to a whole new level of twee

@AdaColeman

Not as pretty as "Her Majesty The Queen".

@RickiTarr

Lisbeth, as in the Girl with a dragon tattoo protagonist, is similar but stronger and less twee IMO.
Yes that is much better

Thank you for the cultural insight, Quaggers. We don't have that brand in Canada, so that explains it. Smile

AntiHop · 11/06/2021 00:56

@Hallyup6

Too harsh sounding to me.

Or a tampon crossed with a bookies.

@LoveFall

Pardon my stupidity. Maybe it's a British joke and I'm not in Britain, but what on earth about the name Lilibet evokes jokes about tampons? It baffles me.
@LoveFall There's a brand of tampon called Lillets (probably spelled that wrong lol) and the reference to gambling probably the bet on the end. Must admit that really wasn't where my head immediately went, I thought that was a bit of a stretch myself and was like Confused Hmm Grin

I think it's a pretty name.
If you like it, go for it.

ILoveShula · 10/06/2021 23:52

Be a bit unique and call your DD Lililet

EishetChayil · 10/06/2021 23:50

It's not even a name. It's a child's mispronunciation of Elizabeth.

My aunt used to call my mum Baggawet instead of Margaret, but I certainly won't be choosing Baggawet for a future daughter.

Idiotic!

FierceBarrie · 10/06/2021 22:20
@FierceBarrie Well, I thought about this name before them! :-) ahaha! I am happy they chose it anyway because I know many people here in the UK only knows it as the nickname of the Queen but it is actually a real name in other countries and now that they have named their baby Lilibet, it will stick in people's minds that it is a name! I also like that it has been used as a royal name, I think our little girl will like that :-) And yes, of course, we love the Queen, so .... :-) :-)
Everyone will simply think you’ve copied H&M. None of this ‘sticking in people’s minds’, yada, yada, nonsense.

They’ll just think you’re jumping on the bandwagon, and are copying.

campion · 10/06/2021 21:28

Just call her Elizabeth or Lily. It's too cringeworthy now after yet another Harry and Meghan own goal.

TruelyonelastSchlep · 10/06/2021 21:25

I wasn't keen the first couple of times I heard it. Have obviously heard the name a lot more lately and the more I hear it the more I dislike it. Sounds kind of ackward.

Lily is so much better. Simple and pretty.

debbrianna · 10/06/2021 21:16

The one person in the royal family who knows a thing or two about tampons other than the women is prince Charles. How fitting..

NotTheCatsWhiskers · 10/06/2021 20:47

Regardless of it being a name elsewhere, it just sounds like you’re jumping on a trend and it will date.

Violetlavenders · 10/06/2021 20:40

It does sound like a brand of tampon.

Elizabeth or Lillian are much classier!

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 10/06/2021 20:39

Well I mean it's Lilly and Bet.
It's ok I guess.
But I prefer Elizabeth.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 10/06/2021 20:23

It’s a bit left field for my tastes especially I have no connection to those African and Caribbean roots apart from wonderful holiday memories is such places. Never met anyone with this name. However if it’s suits your personal circumstances and provides the right connections - then yes be different and go for it! You may need to choose a less unique name to go along with it and make it fit the full name to sound wonderfully together.

30degreesandmeltinghere · 10/06/2021 20:19

No offence to HRH but it sounds like a brand of tampon
