Sunny or Lindy

That's all really. Middle name will probably be Maria..not that it matters much. Surname is 1 syllable.

Lindy is way better than Sunny.

AntiWorkBrigade · 13/06/2021 19:53

I would avoid Sunny because of the child in question isn’t an easy-going optimist it comes across as the punchline to a joke. As someone who does not fit into that category I’d be thoroughly embarrassed if I had to keep introducing myself as Sunny to people!

MayIDestroyYou · 13/06/2021 19:43

Lindy and Sunny both sound like fairly throwaway diminutives to me - not serious attempts to name a person who might carry that name for 100 years. (Particularly with a single syllable surname - it'll sound so inconsequential.)

Fifthtimelucky · 13/06/2021 19:15

I don't like Sunny for a girl, or Lindy, for the reason as others have given. Linda is very dated, I think, and hasn't yet come round again. I don't know any Lindas under 60.

How about Linden? I knew one at school and thought it was a lovely name.

CthulhuChristmas · 12/06/2021 12:58

I'd pick Linda over either, or any of the names others have suggested with a 'lin' sound in them, with Lindy as a nickname.

Sunniva is nice, and there's also the more unusual Linniva.

TenThousandSpoons · 12/06/2021 12:55

At first I would have said neither, but Lindy has really grown on me just from reading this thread.

PennyArcade · 12/06/2021 12:51

I know a Lindy. Her full name is Belinda.

I’m not fussed on Lindy or Sunny. But your child, your choice

Tlollj · 12/06/2021 12:47

Had a dog called Lindy when I was a kid. My mum calls me it sometimes by accident.

ConstanceMarkievicz · 12/06/2021 12:42

I really like like Lindy, it's a nice sound. Not too frilly but just a pretty spirited name.

I like Sunny too but I think of Sunny as a boy.

Anotherhill · 12/06/2021 12:39

Lindy rather than Linda.

angelaEhen · 12/06/2021 11:38

I think lindy is fine, I know a Linnie

BiBabbles · 12/06/2021 11:04

I think Lindy is nice, though agree it sounds nickname and might be better as Lucinda, Lindsay, Linnea, Linnet(te), or similar for a full name for more options when older.

SamMil · 12/06/2021 10:56

I know a Lindy (short for Lynette) and I think it's really nice.

Im another who would assume Sunny was a boy.

LittleDidSheKnow · 12/06/2021 10:38

I like them both!

Isn’t Sunny one of the (female) children in Series of Unfortunate Events? It doesn’t matter that it “sounds like a boys name” when there are plenty of unisex names and diminutives around.

I always wanted to be called Lindy (short for Rosalind) when I was a child (40 years ago!) so still have a fondness.

ElizabethTudor · 12/06/2021 02:03

I like Sunny and Lindy.
Not Linda though.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 12/06/2021 01:56

I also prefer Sunny as a nn for Susannah (or cool Scandi Sunniva if you are braver!) and Lindy as a nn for Rosalind or Lucinda.

But I'd pick Lindy of the two - yes it sounds like a nn and may get mistaken for dated Lindsey, but there are loads of young boys named Sonny now (hovers in and out the top 100) that I think your DD might get annoyed by the confusion if there's a boy Sonny in her peer group.

MerryChristmasToYou · 11/06/2021 17:11

@LizziesTwin

Lindy & Sunny remind me of the Archers where the character named Lynda is known as Lyndy by her husband and played by an actress called Sunny…
You mean Lynda and she is played by Carole Boyd. Sunny Ormonde plays Lillian Bellamy.
Purpleavocado · 11/06/2021 16:56

Sunny sounds like an Irish boys name and Lindy sounds like Lindy Hop. Linda is actually a nice name, just a bit 1960's but you could start a new trend!

Allthebears · 11/06/2021 16:53

Lindy is lovely as a nickname for Linda or other longer name.

Lots of great suggestions already - Rosalind, Belinda, Lucinda etc.

@Kittybelle123

I prefer Lindy. I knew a lovely Lindy whose real name was Lucinda.
I think Lucinda nn Lindy is rather brilliant Smile
partyatthepalace · 11/06/2021 06:27

I never say neither - but neither.

Linda a bit downbeat 60s. I like Lyndal? Otherwise Melinda, Belinda, Rosalind, Rosalin, Roslyn, Aislinn, Linos...

Sunny just sounds like the boys name Sonny, which also sounds like a nn. I’d pick anything beginning with s like Serena or Susannah and just call her Sunny as nn

Strokethefurrywall · 10/06/2021 20:16

Lindy is lovely, go with that.
Sunny is also great but I’d assume a boy.

My friend worked with a Filipino couple called Sunny and Happy! Makes me smile!

PinkBuffalo · 10/06/2021 20:09

I love the name sunnie for a girl spelled ie I know a girl with this name and I think it is lovely 🙂

BlondeRaven · 10/06/2021 19:56

My first thought @Elouera was Lindy chamberlain.

Sunny definitely feels more like a boy. I know a few Sunny’s (not in the UK) I have a friend with a DD called Summer.

Linda is definitely associated as an older name but if you like it go for it. I called one of my DDs by a very old fashioned name (think along the lines of Ethel, Edna or Agatha) I didn’t care what others said and told a few to fuck off when they commented. I’ve had no regrets, it suits her.
